The first interesting hybrid plant from one of my crosses is named after my youngest son (Samuel). I say interesting referring to the fact that a single cross can give rise to different genotypes that show more or less attractive ornamental characteristics. Huernia ˡSamuelˡ originated from the cross between Huernia aff. macrocarpa and Huernia x keniensis from my collection. The main attractions of this hybrid are observed in the almost black coloration of the flowers, abundant flowering and rapid growth.
_Huernia _ˡSophiaˡ is another of my hybrids that, in this case, I dedicated to my stepdaughter Sophia. This hybrid was obtained by crossing a commercial hybrid known as _Huernia schneideriana x Stapelia gigantea _with another commercial hybrid of the genus _Huernia _with an unnamed name. The main attractions of this hybrid are seen in its showy yellowish flowers with reddish spots and abundant flowering.
The germination and cultivation process of both hybrids took about a year and a half. Despite the waiting time, the result was worth it.
Currently both hybrids are present in collections in various provinces of my country (Cuba) and some producers are already marketing them. One of my goals for this year is for both plants to reach various collections throughout the world. Another fact that I would like to share is that I have recently managed to obtain hybrids that I have also dedicated to my mother, grandmother, wife, sister and even my pets. Such hybrids will always have sentimental value to me even if I do get plants with much higher ornamental potential in the future.

La primera planta híbrida interesante de uno de mis cruces la nombré como mi hijo más pequeño (Samuel). Digo interesante refiriéndome a que un solo cruce puede dar origen a diversos genotipos que muestran características ornamentales más o menos atractivas. _Huernia _ˡSamuelˡ se originó por el cruce entre Huernia aff. macrocarpa y _Huernia x keniensis _de mi colección. Los principales atractivos de este híbrido se observan en la coloración casi negra de las flores, una floración abundante y rápido crecimiento.
_Huernia _ˡSophiaˡ es otro de mis híbridos que, en este caso, dediqué a mi hijastra Sophia. Este híbrido fue obtenido por el cruce entre un híbrido comercial conocido como _Huernia schneideriana x Stapelia gigantea _con otro híbrido comercial del género _Huernia _con nombre no adjudicado. Los principales atractivos de este híbrido se observan en sus vistosas flores amarillentas con manchas rojizas y una floración abundante.
El proceso de germinación y cultivo de ambos híbridos demoró aproximadamente un año y medio. A pesar del tiempo de espera, el resultado obtenido valió la pena.
Actualmente ambos híbridos están presentes en colecciones de varias provincias de mi país (Cuba) y algunos productores ya los están comercializando. Una de mis metas para este año es que ambas plantas lleguen a diversas colecciones a lo largo del mundo. Otro dato que me gustaría compartir es que recientemente he logrado obtener híbridos que he dedicado también a mi madre, abuela, esposa, hermana e incluso mis mascotas. Dichos híbridos siempre tendrán un valor sentimental para mí aunque obtenga en el futuro plantas con un potencial ornamental mucho mayor.
