Hello Hive gaming community! I play free to play games on Hive. One of the new games I play is Dungeon Cities. It's a game that's similar in genre to classic dungeon crawler games like Diablo. Only this game has less graphics and more text based. There's a tutorial in the game to get beginners started but if you want a more detailed tutorial, then read on.
Starting the Game
The game starts in the city of Aldoria. You will need a key to start the game. It costs only $5 to start the game. I was able to get a free one from the discord that you can join in this link.
There are a lot of tabs like the guildhall, shop, inventory, etc. For beginners, we will only need a few tabs. For example, the Forge tab can only be accessed in another city. We'll go through the necessary tabs one by one.
Daily Login
First thing to do when you open the game is to claim the daily login rewards. Claim the ember fruit that restores stamina. Stamina is necessary to carry out actions in the game like attacking or fleeing from monsters. If you complete the claim for seven days, there's a sweet 300 drubble claim. We can use it to buy equipment or upgrade our hero.
Guild Hall and Quest Board
The next order of business is to go the guild hall and take quests. I take all of them but I don't expect to complete all quests because my stamina runs out.
Marketplace and Shop
The marketplace and shop are the places to buy equipments and items. The shop is supplied by the game while the marketplace is from players. You can even sell your equipment and items there. For beginners, I suggest to buy a weapon. Even the cheapest one will make life a lot easier and I'll explain later when we do battles.
Inventory
The inventory tab is self explanatory. It shows the equipments and items that we get from dungeons. If you played Diablo then this is very familiar. We only have 10 slots to start and we have to manage our inventory. I have to drop a lot of items and equipments to save space.
Equipment
What's a dungeon crawler without equipments for the hero? We can see the slots of many equipments and weapons that we can equip in our hero. These were all dropped from the dungeon except for the weapon that I bought from the marketplace. We can equip a backpack in here to expand the inventory slots but backpacks cost a lot. Now let's head to the dungeon and slay some monsters.
Dungeon
Let's start at the first floor of the dungeon. Go in any direction to trigger encounters or find chests.
We have our first encounter. We can either flee or attack, both actions cost stamina. Let's look at the stats and see how the fight is determined.
The HP is your health pool, once it runs out, your hero dies. The stamina determines if you can still take action. Once it runs out, you can no longer do actions like flee or start fights. Attack determines how much you can decrease the monster's HP. In this fight, the skeleton has 10 DEF. We have 20 ATK so each hit does 10 damage to the monster. On the contrary, the monster's 22 ATK will hardly scratch our 40 DEF. That's why it's necessary to have a weapon. The hero has a starting 10 ATK stat and not having a weapon will take a long time to defeat a monster, like 60 or more clicks.
After beating the monster, we get XP and loots. You can choose to pick it up or skip it.
We can also get chests and items while exploring the dungeon. The Aldorian Chest contain items necessary to level up the hero. There's also an equipment chest that contains neck armor.
Claim the neck armor and equip it, our defense will increase to 48.
Guild Hall Reception Desk
After beating the monsters, leave the dungeon and claim your prize in the Guild Hall, Reception Desk. The prizes are XP and drubble. That's the basics of the game. I haven't gone far enough but it's fun reliving this classic game. I spent a little at the start of the game to help me progress. If you want to be one of the top players and compete in the Arena for PvP, then you may think to spend more drubble on equipment and levelling up. You can also buy backpacks for HBD to increase your inventory slots.
