When I first heard about Dungeon Cities, a blockchain, based dungeon crawler, I’ll admit I was skeptical. Another crypto game when most of these games aren’t doing nearly as well as they used to?
Still, something about it intrigued me, probably the dungeon theme which I love. So I gave it a shot, I created my account, linked my Hive Keychain, and stepped into the ruins.
And wow… I had nothing. No weapon. No armor. Not even a rusty knive to defend myself with. And I’m not gonna lie, the first few days weren’t what I expected at all.
Week 1: The Scavenger Phase
The first couple of days were humble, to say the least. Without any combat gear, fighting monsters was basically suicide. So I did the only sensible thing: I became a professional scavenger.
Even a low-level monster like this one could wipe me out in seconds during my early dungeon runs.
I’d click through the early dungeon floors, mostly Floor 1 and 2, collecting every piece of material and every chest I could find. These resources can be sold in the in-game store for Drubble, the main currency in Dungeon Cities. At first, sales were tiny, 2 Drubble here, 5 there, but I kept at it. Every login meant another round of harvesting, listing, and waiting for my stamina to come back.
What surprised me was how satisfying that loop felt. There’s a quiet rhythm to it: enter dungeon → gather → return → sell → repeat. It reminded me of those old-school browser games where progress wasn’t handed to you, it was earned, slowly and deliberately.
Week 2: The First Real Weapon
By the end of week one, I’d saved up around 120 Drubble, enough to buy a Snakeroot Scourge, a Class D weapon that completely changed how I played.
Equipping that weapon changed everything. Suddenly, I wasn’t just avoiding enemies, I was hunting them. I started clearing Floor 3, then Floor 4, and kept pushing forward all the way to Floor 20.
Week 3: Reaching Floor 20
By week three, I’d defeated the boss on Floor 20 and unlocked access to the second city.
Tip for new players: Don’t rush to the second city too soon. You’ll still need a lot of Aldorian Core fragments to level up, and you won’t find those in the second city. I made that mistake. I traveled over, realized I couldn’t progress without the cores, and had to pay 2,000 Drubble to teleport back. Total waste!
Current Situation: The Leveling Wall
This is where things got tricky.
I’ve accumulated a huge amount of experience enough to level up several times over. But in Dungeon Cities, leveling isn’t automatic. To actually advance, you need three things:
-Enough XP
-Aldorian Core fragments
-Drubble
Aldorian Core fragments can drop from chests on any floor, but they’re rare. Chests don’t appear very often, so it really comes down to luck.
Right now, I’m stuck in that frustrating, but motivating spot: I’m strong enough to fight higher, level content, but I can’t convert my XP into real levels because I’m missing those Aldorian core fragments. Every dungeon run now has a clear purpose hunt for Aldorian Chests. And if I do find one, I can either use the crystals or sell them on the marketplace for the extra Drubble I’ll need to level up.
As you can see in the screenshot, I’ve got tons of XP saved up, but I’m still missing those Aldorian Core fragments.
For now, my focus stays on farming chests and hoping luck swings my way.
