SEVILLE IN SPRING
This year again I have had the good fortune to travel to Spain, a country full of beautiful places. I was accepted to participate in the II International Women and Writing Congress organized by the University of Seville. I arrived in Madrid and that same day I took a train with Daniel, my partner, to Seville. We arrived at dusk, we had rented a small apartment while visiting the city. Neither of us knew the beautiful Andalusian city. We were not disappointed. Seville is a city full of charm.
We arrived two days before the start of the Congress to have the opportunity to visit the city. We took a tour of the emblematic places. As in most of the important cities of southern Spain, Seville breathes the Arab influence, the seven centuries in which the Arab culture occupied Spain. So, for example, the cathedral was built on the base of a large Arab mosque, then remodeled and transformed into a Catholic temple. When you look at the Giralda, an immense tower that today forms part of the cathedral, you can see clearly Arab architectural elements and decorations. On its north Almohad façade we can also see elements of Arab culture. One of the tourist sites in Seville is the Real Alcazar of Seville, a walled architectural monument whose initial construction is attributed to Almutamid, king of the taifa of Seville between 1069 and 1091, but then has been remodeled through different eras. On this first trip to Seville I did not have time to visit it.

SPRING TIME FLOWERS AND TREES
When it is spring the streets and fields are filled with flowers. We find Seville with trees and gardens in bloom, which gives it a very cheerful appearance. Like most large cities in Spain, it is a pleasant city for tourists or for those who visit for a few days, as in my case. You find pleasant pedestrian areas, cafes and restaurants. Although I must warn that I did not find much gastronomic variety in the city, most of the restaurants we saw had more or less the same menu, with only a few dishes.

Similarly, you can rent motorized skateboards, which circulate on the same roads as bikes for €0.15 per minute. You download the application of the company you want to rent, register your account, your payment method, how long you are going to use it and the app will indicate the nearest place where you can unlock it and move around the city on a skateboard. To unlock the scooter, simply scan the QR code located on the handlebars or other visible part of the scooter. Some companies may charge an initial unlocking fee, which is usually €1, although Voi offers an option with no unlocking fee. What is very important is to follow the app's directions and know the local regulations, to avoid fines.
THE FAIR OF SEVILLE
The day we arrived in Seville was the end of the Seville Fair, a great event that takes place in spring, visited by Sevillians of all ages and social conditions and tourists who are visiting the city. The Fair is made up of hundreds of stalls with tables and chairs, people singing and dancing and a large amusement park. It is a real party, there is a lot of fun, a lot of joy. There is clapping, music everywhere.

From the youngest to the oldest are taken by that joy. One breathes what I suppose must be the Sevillian spirit, that Arab heritage that survives, together with the gypsy culture and takes the endless streets of the Fair. But it is the women of all ages, who exhibit the typical costumes. Even if they do not wear the faralaes costumes, they wear a red flower in their hair.

THE SQUARE OF SPAIN
The most beautiful architectural monument we visited was undoubtedly the Square of Spain in Seville. Located in the Maria Luisa Park, it is a large semicircular open square, with a two-story architectural complex bordering it, at the ends of which there are two towers that currently house state agencies. Between the square and the architectural complex there is an artificial lake, in which you can navigate by renting a boat, four bridges connect the central square and the architectural monument. Beautifully decorated, it was built between 1914 and 1929, according to the design of the architect Aníbal González, for the Ibero-American Exposition of 1929. Its decoration includes 48 benches dedicated to the Spanish provinces, 52 medallions of illustrious personalities of the history of Spain and some heraldic coats of arms.

MODERN SEVILLE
Beautiful Seville also has its modern buildings, the most emblematic of which is the Tower of Sevilla, a towering cylindrical commercial building 180 meters high, with 37 floors and three basements. Its designer, the Argentine architect César Pelli, is also the designer of other famous contemporary skyscrapers such as the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), the World Financial Center and the MOMA Tower Museum in New York. Located in the southern sector of the Cartuja Island, La Torre de Sevilla is part of a large shopping center and belongs to Caixa Bank. Its construction began in 2007, in 2015 it began to house offices, the Caixafórum opened in 2017, while the attached shopping center was inaugurated in September 2018, a month later the hotel that operates on the top floors of the tower was inaugurated.

Como en la mayoría de las ciudades importantes del sur de España, en Sevilla se respira la influencia árabe, los siete siglos en los que la cultura árabe ocupó España. PRIMAVERA FLORES Y ÁRBOLES
Cuando es primavera las calles y los campos se llenan de flores. Encontramos a Sevilla con árboles y jardines florecidos, lo que le da un aspecto muy alegre. Como la mayoría de las ciudades grandes de España, es una ciudad grata para el turista o para quienes la visitan por pocos días, como es mi caso. Encuentras gratos espacios peatonales, cafés o restaurantes. Aunque debo advertir que no encontré en la ciudad mucha variedad gastronómica, la mayoría de los restaurantes que vimos tenían más o menos el mismo menú, de pocos platos.

UNA CIUDAD ECOLÓGICA
¿Te gusta andar en bicicleta? Una de las cosas que más llamó mi atención cuando llegué a Sevilla es la cantidad de vías para bicicleta que hay en la ciudad. Muchos de los ciudadanos de Sevilla se mueven en bicicleta y así también pueden hacerlo los turistas. Hay espacios en la ciudad donde encuentras empresas que alquilan bicicletas para alquilar a un precio bastante económico, entre 7€ y 8€ euros por tres horas y si quieres alquilar todo el día 15€. Así también hay aparcamientos donde puedes devolverla.

De igual manera, puedes alquilar monopatines con motor, los cuales circulan por las mismas vías que las bicis por 0,15€ el minuto. Descargas la aplicación de la empresa con la que quieres alquilar, registras tu cuenta, tu método de pago, cuánto tiempo la vas a usar y la app te indicará el lugar más cercano donde puedes desbloquearlo y moverte en un monopatín por la ciudad. Para desbloquear el patinete, simplemente escanea el código QR ubicado en el manillar o en otra parte visible del patinete. Algunas compañías pueden cobrar una tarifa inicial de desbloqueo, que generalmente es de 1 euro, aunque Voi ofrece una opción sin tarifa de desbloqueo. LA FERIA DE SEVILLA
El día que llegamos a Sevilla estaba terminando la Feria de Sevilla, un gran evento que se realiza en primavera, al que visitan sevillanos de todas las edades y condiciones sociales y los turistas que se encuentran de visita en la ciudad. Componen la Feria cientos de puestos en los que hay mesas y sillas, gente cantando y bailando y un gran parque de diversiones. Es una verdadera fiesta, hay mucho jolgorio, mucha alegría. Hay palmas, música por doquier.

Desde los más pequeños hasta los más grandes se ven tomados por esa alegría. Se respira lo que supongo debe ser el espíritu sevillano, esa herencia árabe que pervive, unida a la cultura gitana y toma las interminables calles de la Feria. Pero son las mujeres de todas las edades, las que exhiben los trajes típicos. Aún si no llevan los trajes de faralaes, llevan una flor roja en el pelo.

LA PLAZA DE ESPAÑA
El monumento arquitectónico más bonito que visitamos fue sin duda la Plaza de España de Sevilla. Ubicada en el Parque de María Luisa, es una gran plaza abierta semicircular, con un conjunto arquitectónico de dos plantas que la bordea, en cuyos extremos hay dos torres que actualmente albergan organismos estatales. Entre la plaza y el conjunto arquitectónico hay un lago artificial, en el cual puedes navegar alquilando un bote, cuatro puentes unen la plaza central y el monumento arquitectónico. Bellamente decorada, se construyó entre 1914 y 1929, según el diseño del arquitecto Aníbal González, para la Exposición Iberoamericana de 1929. Forman parte de su decoración 48 bancos dedicados a las provincias españolas, 52 medallones de personajes ilustres de la historia de España y algunos escudos heráldicos.

LA SEVILLA MODERNA
La hermosa Sevilla tiene también sus edificios modernos, el más emblemático es la Torre de Sevilla, un altísimo edificio comercial de forma cilíndrica de 180 metros de altura, 37 pisos y tres sótanos. Su diseñador, el arquitecto argentino César Pelli, es también el diseñador de otros famosos rascacielos contemporáneos como las torres Petronas de Kuala Lumpur (Malasia), el World Financial Center y el MOMA Tower Museum de Nueva York. Ubicada en el sector sur de la isla de la Cartuja, La Torre de Sevilla forma parte de un gran centro comercial y pertenece a la Caixa Bank.
