Hi, dear Hivers
On Saturday, I visited (for the second time since I came to Brazil) the gorgeous natural reserve of Morros. It is located on the North-East part of the state of Maranhão, about two-hour drive from Sao Luis.
I was invited by my boyfriend's family (parents and sister). They had promised to take me in one of their trips, which they used to make quite often, but which they have reduced because of the pandemic. It was a very nice and sunny day and we had the most wonderful time.
One stop on the road
The trip was pretty uneventful. Great roads, nice landscape (did not take many pictures). We can see old railroads alongside. There are not modern railroads in this part of the country, as far as I know.
Typical Brazilian coxinha (fried dough filled with shredded chicken meat), a ball-shaped version of our flat, crecent-shaped empanadas 🤣
I love how roomy these places are.
The cutest thing welcoming us at the Inn.
This is Pousada Pedra Grande. Beautiful facilities that were built inside the forest area and tries to merge with nature without affecting it much.
The river is right around, but people have to pay for using the facilities. They charge some $7 per person. To stay at the inn is another deal we did not even bother to ask about since we were not going to stay too long.
Services and food are quite pricy here. I guess they charge you extra for providing what you need in the middle of nowhere 😊
It is not a bad idea to bring some things, like water or snacks since here they cost twice or more. We did eat here, although I did not take any pictures. I felt everybody was just enjoying the experience and phones were not on the table, which was good. We had some shrimp, fried with butter and garlic, rice and farinha. I loved it. It had been a long time since I last ate shrimp.
They have several pools like these ones.
This pool was kind of crazy. On the top there is this huge bucket that is periodically poured down.
Plenty of vegetation combined with the comfortable amenities of modern green hotels.
I loved the contrast of colors in these plants
Leaving things at the parking lot to head down the hills to the river.
The path made us feel that we were on a jungle expedition.
I just liked this rock
A dream-like river. As peaceful as it can get.
The waster was just perfect. Clear, fresh, and as long as you don't do anything crazy away from the shore, safe!
Anyone can get used to this. I hope one day I can bring my parents and sisters here.
