Whether it's visiting the opera in Vienna, afternoon tea in London, buying leather in Florence or sipping a cocktail at the Eiffel Tower, there are several things you need to do, eat, see, buy and experience in Europe.
Do you think something deserves to be on the list?
Tell me what I missed!
A trip to the Greek Islands
The mystery is revealed in Mykonos, Santorini and even Patmos—but on the lesser-known islands of Antiparos, Paros and Pano Koufonisi, the beaches are untouched, the taverns are rustic, and the pace of life is blissfully slow.
There are almost no nightclubs, noisy restaurants or expensive shops here-and yet there seems to be no end to the whitewashed hill towns and hidden swimming caves to discover and explore.
Take a canal tour in Amsterdam
When you're in Amsterdam, grab some fried herring, a can of Heineken beer and go on a canal tour.
The Dutch are not crazy about curtains, so you can look right into some of the most amazing palatial townhouses as you sail—think of the coffered painted ceilings and gorgeous interiors
Order an Einspänner in Vienna
A Viennese specialty, Einspänner is a double espresso topped with homemade whipped cream, served in a clear glass and often with a small amount of Viennese chocolate on the side.
The waiter will nod at the order; everyone in Vienna knows the Einspenner, but the drink hasn't traveled that much outside of Austria. Try one of them, surrounded by wooden panels, the Art Nouveau interior of the Landtmann Cafe, or the bright, modern splendor of the mid-century.
Drink a cocktail in front of the Eiffel Tower
Paris has its share of luxury hotels with magnificent views, but there is something special about the impression of the roof terrace of the Raphael Hotel.
Sit down under the rose-covered trellises and drink a glass or two, looking at the Eiffel Tower looming on the horizon. This terrace is best suited on warm spring days and in summer (naturally) and it is always a good idea to make a reservation for the terrace.
Time Travel in Athens
The Acropolis is one of the most visited tourist spots in Athens, which you cannot miss. The opportunity to see the Parthenon up close and in person is a moment you will never forget, and the views at the top of the hill are the best in the city.
Get there early to avoid the crowds (or go at night with a date and a bottle of wine), and don't forget to wear sturdy shoes for the climb. After you go downstairs, grab a bite of kulouri (a crispy sesame-covered bread ring) from the numerous street food carts in Athens.
Pilsner Restaurants in the "High Beer Garden in Germany"
The so-called "highest beer garden in Germany" is located at the top of the Zugspitze, which, as it turns out, is the highest mountain in Germany (makes sense).
Although it takes some effort to get to this vast terrace-accessible only by cable car or on foot—it is undoubtedly worth it to admire the view of the Alps with a cold beer in hand.
