A very special day for me had finally arrived; on my third day in the city of Rome I would visit the imposing Roman Colosseum. I woke up more excited than ever, my friend and I had breakfast and then went out to meet it.
We had previously booked the tickets for the monumental Flavio Amphitheater as it is also known. We arrived very early and realized that due to an electrical problem the doors had not been opened yet; instead of discouraging ourselves, the delay allowed us to take a walk around the perimeter and take many pictures and videos from all possible angles. We were also able to contemplate the Titus and Constantine Arches located nearby.
Finally, they opened the doors and we were able to enter. The first thought that came to my mind was, "It's really huge." Nothing that I could have imagined, seen in a photo or in a movie could resemble that impressive structure that remains standing in the heart of the city despite the years.
I remember that I was very close to a group that had a guide who knew many things about the Coliseum, so I listened to all the information I could and shared it with my friend who could not detach from the camera.
After that pleasant visit, we continued towards the Roman and Palatine Forum, and as a funny note, we got lost trying to locate the entrance, but after a couple of minutes, we continued with our excursion. Everything was steeped in history; I imagined all the events that took place in that marvelous complex and in the Colosseum, those battles between gladiators, or those scenes of death in which people perished in the fierce mouths of a lion.
This visit was just going great, once we finished the tour it was time for lunch, and what better way to do it than eating some delicious pizzas. It was the first time we would try them since we arrived, I must say they were delicious.
After that, I decided to call my family to give them a preview of everything I had seen, I wanted them to be as amazed as I was, and make them know that I was enjoying so much my trip. It was time to rest because the next day another jewel was waiting for me, I would know the Vatican City, and I was already impatient.
