They reconed the Rex hotel has been around for a while! Since 1959 that is 55 years and they have looked after all types of famous people from Royalty to world famous entertainers. I Though it would have been well out of our price range but it is always worth having a look to see what is available. $202 AUD per night and our room had its own sauna. Definitely not cheap but we have paid more for less in the past.
It is very handy with the light rail right out the front door and only 1.5 kilometers from the center of town.

The buffet breakfast was $22 each at the restaurant on the top floor.
The sauna was fabulous. I have never had one in our own room and it even had a view of the park.
I thought it was a very clever design and simple to use.
Our room was pretty much a one bedroom apartment with lots of space but no microwave, kitchenette or washing machine just the basic tea and coffee making facilities.
Haig park was next to hotel complete with its own Sunday markets and a bit of a running path.
I always plan to use the 20 meter lap pool and gym but did not get time on this trip.
The only problem with the Rex is the free unallocated car parking. If your there at a busy times it you will probably be looking for a car space on the street.
The sunset behind Black mountain and the communications tower. We would happily stay at the Rex Hotel again and maybe check out the spa suit next time.
