El histórico castillo de San Carlos de la barra ubicado en el municipio Almirante Padilla Venezuela estado Zulia es un punto relevante para la historia de nuestro país y de lo que fue la independencia de nuestro estado, en esta oportunidad hablaremos del área de los calabozos ya que para la construcción de dicho majestuoso espacio te necesito la ayuda de 400 esclavos, cabe destacar que estos no eran alimentados de buena manera sufrían mucho hasta que se les causaba la muerte debido a las circunstancias fuertes en las que se encontraban.

Son 19 calabozos los que dispone la parte inferior del Castillo, la cantidad de esclavos por calabozo disponía del tamaño del lugar ya que los calabozos más grandes tenían más esclavos y los pequeños menos personas los calabozos pequeños, aproximadamente guardaban en su interior 15 esclavos, mientras que los más grandes tenían capacidad para 30 presos o esclavos, hasta 1962 en el gobierno de Cipriano Castro aún habían esclavos en el lugar.

Los presos no tenían ningún beneficio solamente podrían salir de los calabozos una sola vez por semana, los calabozos eran totalmente oscuros no tenían ventanas, por lo que era muy difícil la entrada de la luz del sol, así como también del aire solamente entraba una pequeña corriente de aire por el espacio inferior de las puertas de madera, ellos debían permanecer todos en ese lugar comer ahí y realizar sus necesidades fisiológicas por lo que el espacio era totalmente inhumano.

The prisoners had no benefits, they could only leave the dungeons once a week, the dungeons were totally dark, they had no windows, so it was very difficult the entrance of sunlight, as well as the air only entered a small draft through the lower space of the wooden doors, they had to stay all in that place to eat there and perform their physiological needs so the space was totally inhumane.

Existía una de las torturas que se llamaba tortura china, en la cual los esclavos eran encerrados en un solo espacio donde te había un esclavo, este debía colocarse completamente de pie le caía una gota de agua salada en la cabeza, hasta que la misma le perforaba el cráneo y le causaba la muerte todos los que se enfrentaban a esta tortura no salían con vida, cuando llegaba el mal olor del esclavo fallecido era y lo sacaban complentamente sin vida.

Por último después de años a los calabozos se le agregaron ventanas circulares así como también se frizó en sus paredes algunos buscaron unirlos por completo, esto fue en los últimos años cuando el castillo dejo de ser una prisión.
