The children's passports had expired, and there were long queues for passports in Stockholm and no slots available until November. We got time to get our passports done in Enköping which is close to Stockholm. We took the children and reached Enköping. We still had an hour and a half in the time we had booked. So we planned a city walk.
At some distance from the passport office, a road was leading to a very high altitude and at the end of the road there were stairs going up. From a distance, it was clear that it is a church.
Vårfrukyrka (Our Lady Church) is located at the top of the city of Enköping. We roamed around the church and went inside. It is a magnificent church both externally and internally with roots dating back 900 years.
After going inside we found that there was a guided tour for the visitors that today. One lady gave us a brief historical information about the church. The Vårfrukyrkan, Enköping is one of the oldest churches in Sweden. It was built in the 12th century and is located in the center of Enköping. The church has a long history and has been rebuilt many times over the centuries.
Anyone interested in Swedish history and Swedish culture, including religious history, should definitely consider a visit to this church.
The paintings on the ceilings and walls of this church are an addition to its beauty.
Now it was time to go to the passport office, so we did a short meditation and left for the passport office.
