One day in Bogota is definitely not enough to see everything I had planned and also have time to check out the street art I knew would be there. The plan was two days, but my flight from Amsterdam was canceled, so I had one day in Bogota, before my flight to Medellin. I spend that day in the historical center. I prioritized the gold museum - Museo del Oro - as well as a walking tour around Plaza de Bolivar. Unfortunately, I didn't get to see so much.
The first really good work I saw, was on my way from the airport to the hotel. The Avenida El Dorado which leads from the airport into the city, has a long, beautiful painted wall. Unfortunately it was impossible to take photos.
Bogota is a city with lots of street art painted on shop fronts, wall, fences etc. But it hasn't always been like that. I have read that some time ago ( I think it was in 2011) a 16 year old graffiti artist was killed by the police, because he was spraypainting a wall. His artistic name was Tripido. The police tried to cover it up, but the street art communumity, together with his parrents reacted with protests. around in the city. This led to two police officers being arrested. This changed the way the authorities look at street art. The street artists are now protected by the police.
I took a taxi back to my hotel. Fortunately we passed a few good murals. I was able to take photos from the back seat of the taxi. The traffic was standing still at times.
