One day, not long ago in Grand Baie, I took a slightly different route than I usually do. Instead of walking the main street, the intention was to get away from the busy road with heavy traffic. I wanted to see if I could find a quieter road, that would also be a shortcut home.
It was a good idea to do that. I came across the Grand Baie Government School, which is an elementary school. The wall that surrounds the school has several nice images. There is a narrow sidewalk and a fence separating the sidewalk and the road. This meant I got very close to the wall. It was therefore sometimes difficult to get absolutely every part of the painted image into the frame.
I assume that the pictures were painted by the students. They show a bit of what they are interested in and what is important to them. The last two photos show paintings on each side of the entrance gate. I am pretty sure that the colored fingerprints, are the signatures of the artists – pupils.
There are several parts of the wall that have only had the background color. Maybe there will be more paintings eventually. The pupils did a good job helping to decorate their own school. Now I have started to walk this road because it is shorter and with less trafic. At the same time I can admire the walls and maybe discover more after some time.
