Hail to the Hive!
Two days ago the annual ‘Bring the Paint’ festival started in Leicester and I am super happy that we happen to be moored up here at this time.
So I trundled into the City Centre and picked myself up a map of all the locations that they will be creating new artwork and bringing the city to life.
They have also included the #what3words locations which is excellent as I use the same locator to let people know where we moor the boat when we have visitors.
Now there’s alot of ground to cover and the street art will be a work in progress throughout the week but Today I plan to start scouting a few locations near to where we have the boat moored up, which is fairly central.
I quite like the displays where I picked up the map celebrating all things graffiti.
These miniature train carriages remind me of the scenes we saw as kids in the 1980’s from New York.
Now as you know graffiti/ street art divides opinions and a festival like this is a great opportunity to change peoples mindsets. Rather than see the artists as a menace the are being embraced and given an opportunity to showcase their amazing talents and in doing so, breathe life into the drabness of the inner city.
Plain brick sidewalls transformed into bright art giving a boring part of the city a breath of life.
In the same way that the canal lock ( that I posted yesterday) was brightened up and made to look beautiful, so is this forgotten lart of the city.
I shall return to this in a few days to show you all the progress made with it.
Because as you can see, what is boring, drab and depressing can be transformed into something that brings life, warmth and vitality to the City centre buildings.
This festival is on all week and I will bring daily posts to show you all what’s happening with it all. I have much walking to do to find all the artists in action!
