I like to do my own thing on Hive but I also like to learn from other people because learning from other people can be very efficient.
So recently I started getting downvoted by boomerang and alexvan.
Oddly enough, this happened WAY after I stopped downvoting "abuse" on Hive regularly.
I literally have no idea why these people are downvoting me.
I actually have upvoted alexvan before so this is extra weird.
I do not downvote to stop "abuse" right now (even though I used to). This could change at anytime so that statement is not a commitment.
The main reason I do not downvote to stop "abuse" right now is because I have been told by other users I should leave a comment for why I downvoted. I tried this and it has a lot of cons to leave a comment when you downvote. And to be fair, no one leaves a comment when they downvote me so I think this standard set by other users is at best weird but also inconsistent.
The biggest con for leaving a comment when you downvote is there is typically a lot of back and forth about the downvote with the user that got downvoted. They want to talk it out rather than adjusting. This is for sure ok. I do not expect anyone to change what they do because I downvoted them.
Ultimately a downvote is a disagreement of rewards. The reward pool is not free. The reward pool is capped and the upvotes you receive DO NOT determine the amount of Hive you get, the Hive you get is determined by the amount of the FIXED reward pool that is distributed to YOU.
For example, if a lot of spam on Hive exists and gets upvoted, you will get less rewards. Another example, if I (

Long story short, downvotes are not that bad and I will continue posting and upvoting what I think is interesting.
