Yes, everything you describe is exactly what happens to me when I try to play a game my PC can't run. I've had Oblivion installed for about two years now, and I don't dare delete it because every now and then I get the urge to start a new game. I also have some mods installed to improve the gameplay, especially mods that add items, clothing, armor, and things like that.
I recently enjoyed playing as an Imperial pirate. I downloaded a couple of mods that added pirate outfits, as well as the familiar Dunbarrow pirate base from one of the game's DLCs. It was great: no armor or shields, just the pirate attire and a saber as a weapon, along with some illusion magic to control certain enemies.
On the other hand, I've never played any Dead Space game, not even the original 2008 version. I've only watched gameplay videos, and I'd say the 2008 version has aged very well graphically despite its age. I think I should try to buy the 2008 version; it shouldn't give my PC any problems.
