After clearing the roof, I used an elevator controlled by Lev to ascend a massive tower into the clouds. Abby struggled significantly with her intense fear of heights as we navigated narrow, risky beams and bridges far above the city. The journey became increasingly terrifying as we crossed from one skyscraper to another.
I noticed there was a tower with staircases going upwards towards the thick cloud after taking down all the Scars there. It looked incredibly intimidating from the ground, with the metal structure disappearing into the gray mist above.
I stood at the base for a moment, looking at the daunting climb that awaited us.
Though we didn't try those stairs as there was an elevator that Lev controlled to get us up to the higher levels. I watched him work the manual crank with ease, while the platform creaked and groaned under our weight.
The higher we went, the more the wind began to howl through the open sides of the lift, signaling our ascent.
When we were going more upwards, Abby was not feeling well at all as her breathing became heavy and labored. As you know, she hates heights, and being trapped on a small, moving platform only made her anxiety worse.
At last she got a chance to get inside the building, but it looked like we were not on a safe side yet. No land could be seen from there from the big height, as the entire city was swallowed by a sea of white clouds.
It felt like we were standing on a floating island of steel and concrete, completely detached from reality.
I could feel how Abby was feeling there because I am also a man who hates height, and the lack of visibility made it feel even more unstable. But I had to follow Lev on the risky terrains up on that height, stepping carefully over gaps where every step felt like a gamble against the wind.
But there was this even riskier path I had to pass where Abby acted like she was going to throw up from the sheer terror of the ledge. We had to try another similar pass right after, forcing her to move despite the paralyzing fear.
After passing that risky bridge, Lev mentioned it was even not the scariest we passed. It gave me goosebumps following him deeper into the skeleton of the building, where the only thing between us and the abyss was a few rusted beams.
It looked like Lev was not lying about the difficulty, because right after moving ahead, I noticed the actual bridge we were going to take. It stretched from one roof to another building through the thick cloud, looking like a thin thread in the sky. The sight of it was enough to make anyone's heart race as we approached the crossing.
After following Lev to this part, some buildings became visible as the cloud was not so thick there for a brief moment. However, I noticed there was a riskier pass ahead that looked even more decayed than the last one. We had to keep moving, knowing that the only way down was to keep going up until we reach our goal.
We'll check what happens next in another post.
