Spiders, or more like, some spider - like creatures, in this game are pretty big compared to spiders here on Earth, in our real lives, where various species and environments are getting extinct, urbanized, or stupidized as I write this crap, so, yes, I encountered quite a few big arachnids recently, while playing Avowed.
Today, I'm gonna say a few words about how I killed the biggest of them, a spider called Nacib. So, why does this spider, unlike any other in the entire game's world, have a specific name? I don't know. Maybe you know. I don't. Nope. Maybe becouse this spider is legendary.
Anyway, in the local language, Nacib means."Eight-Legged-Toxic-Motherfucker." Just kidding. I don't know what it means, probably nothing.
This epic litlle monster hunt started last night ...
... in the beautiful city of Paradis. It was night inside the game, just like it was in my hometown, which is still a part of our ordinary real world.
I came across a small, dark alley that ended in a hole in a tall, thick wall. I passed through the hole and found myself in a large, hidden yard infested with spiders. After killing the arachnids, and a bit of exploring ...
... I came to a door that led out of the city.
I just discovered a convenient shortcut I'll keep using later in the game.
In this screenshot, I'm outside the city wall.
The river isn't far from there ...
... and the cave where Nacib was hiding is even closer.
Here you can see me aiming my arquebuse at one of the smaller spiders near the cave's entrance.
This screenshot was taken a few seconds after killing two more spiders. These smaller spiders aren't that small, actually, don't you think?
I just entered the cave when this screenshot was taken.
Here you can see me cautiously sneaking deeper into the cave.
At some point, I came across a chest with some rare valuables. Caves in this area always have something to reward you for all the risks you are taking with the local fauna.
Some mushrooms that grow in dark, humid places have strong healing properties that work like magic.
I also found the bones of an adventurer who explored this place before me. He never returned to tell the world what he saw inside the cave, but ...
... but he left a message. I mean, it was more like a warning, really. A bit later ...
... I had to fight with a bunch of smaller, very aggressive spiders, and then the legendary Nacib appeared on the scene.
His health bar was pretty long, and so was the battle.
I was using some kind of primitive fantasy version of a 16th or 17th-century pistol.
For these screenshots, I let the spider come close to me and bite me, and I died more than once. When I decided to finish the mission, I killed Nacib from a safe distance. That's why I decided to play as an Elven archer in the first place.
Here you can see me entering the shortcut that leads out of the cave.
I had to climb this ladder ...
... so I did it.
In this screenshot, you can see me in the tunnel above the cave. That tunnel is a part of the city's massive fortification.
When I got out, it was early morning, and the weather was very nice. The dangerous world of Avowed looked deceptively quiet.
