I’ve been diving into Ghost of Yotei’s Legends mode lately, and honestly, it’s been a blast. For those who aren't familiar, it’s the online multiplayer component where you can team up with one to three other players, depending on which mode you jump into.
The game offers a few different ways to play. You’ve got the Story mode, where you fight through various missions leading up to a confrontation with one of the "Six of Yotei." Then there’s the classic Survival mode, where you face off against waves of enemies, and finally the Raids—the most challenging content in the game that absolutely requires a full four-player squad to complete.
What’s really cool is that, unlike the main campaign, Legends leans heavily into the supernatural and Japanese mythology. Each mission is presented as a stylized "retelling" of Atsu’s journey, reimagining the main story’s villains as dark legends and yokai.
The images I’m sharing here are from the second mission of "The Serpent" storyline, titled "Eyes in the Dark." The objective is to escort and protect a spirit cart. You essentially have to help it "feed" on souls using the lanterns in its eyes, which act as soul-collectors.
In exchange for your help, you can use the power stored in those lanterns to fire off blasts that strip away the "attunement" of certain enemies. You’ll see them glowing green, blue, or yellow based on their connection to the Moon, Sun, or Storm. Once you break that connection, they become vulnerable and much easier to finish off.
The finale involves destroying these floating wardrobe-like entities called Void Jufu. There are three in total, and they definitely fight back—they cast a specific type of magic that can kill you instantly if you’re not careful. Even though this content is designed for a duo, I’ve been tackling it solo since I don’t currently have a PlayStation Plus subscription for online play.
