A detour from the main journey led to the Tangled Crossroads, a Mongol camp hidden deep in the forest. After an initial failed standoff that ended in defeat, determination pushed a second attempt. This time, the Mongol Leader fell cleanly, but a small mistake shattered the stealth approach, forcing a tactical retreat back into the trees.
I decided to take a break from the main path to liberate some Mongol territories. I stumbled upon the Tangled Crossroads, a camp nestled deep within a dense forest area. I stopped a good distance away at first, just watching the smoke rise from the trees and getting a feel for the layout.
I found a rocky hill that overlooked the camp, giving me the perfect vantage point. I pulled out my glass and spotted the Mongol Leader. He was in the middle of a training session, practicing his forms with a spear. He looked disciplined and dangerous, but I knew I had to take him out.
I had a bonus objective to take the leader down in a standoff. I moved in and issued the challenge, but I failed my first attempt. My timing was off, and I was just a fraction of a second too late. The leader didn't miss his chance, he countered immediately and pinned me down, dealing massive damage.
The fight went south fast. I didn't have enough resolve to heal properly, and I was losing health rapidly while trying to fend off the leader. As I tried to create some distance to regroup, an archer in a nearby tower caught me in his sights. He let an arrow fly, and that was the end of that run.
I went right back to the crossroads, determined to get it right. I reached the same spot and observed the leader again during his practice. I wasn't going to let him get the upper hand twice.
I called for the standoff again, and this time, my blade was true. I waited for that exact moment of movement and cut him down perfectly. The Mongol Leader was dealt with before the rest of the camp even realized I was there.
With their commander gone, I climbed onto the roof of one of the houses to survey the rest of the camp. It was still quiet; the other Mongols were going about their business, completely unaware that their leader was lying dead in the dirt.
I remembered the archer who took me down in the previous attempt. I made my way to his tower and climbed up silently. I assassinated him from behind. It was a satisfying bit of revenge.
I tried to keep the stealth streak going, but I made a mistake. I accidentally whistled while trying to navigate around a group of guards. The sound echoed through the camp, and suddenly, every Mongol in the vicinity was alerted to my position. My cover was completely blown.
The entire camp swarmed me at once. Faced with a dozen blades and no room to breathe, I realized I was too vulnerable to take them all on in a fair fight. I decided the smartest move was to retreat.
I vanished back into the forest, escaping their wrath for now, with the intent to return once I've sharpened my skills even further.
