Been reading a lot about ICP lately… and honestly, it’s blowing my mind a bit. Lol.
At first, I thought it was just another crypto project — but it’s way more than that. ICP (Internet Computer Protocol)) isn’t just about money or tokens. It’s trying to rebuild the internet but fully decentralised, hmm?
Instead of using things like Google Cloud or Amazon servers, ICP lets you host entire websites, apps, and even social platforms directly on the blockchain. No middlemen. No big tech spying on you. Just code that runs forever unless you turn it off. Amazing!
The smart contracts they use are called canisters, and they’re like mini websites or apps that live completely on the blockchain. And the best part? Users don’t need to pay gas fees. That makes everything feel smooth and more like using normal apps.
It made me wonder: if ICP can really do all this, what happens to the rest of the crypto world once ICP matures and delivers on it's promises?
Ethereum might still be useful for money stuff and DeFi, but not for running full apps.
Bitcoin will probably keep being digital gold.
Layer-2s and other blockchains might need to change fast or fade out.
There are already real working apps on ICP:
OpenChat – a Web3 chat app, kind of like WhatsApp
distrikt – like LinkedIn but fully decentralised
DSCVR– a Reddit-style community app on the blockchain
They actually run fully on the blockchain. Not just wallets and tokens. The whole app, backend and frontend.
Still learning, but I’m excited. If ICP delivers what it promises, everything could change, and I think we are getting close to the point where all the foundations are laid down and the infrastructure is in place. I think their new AI app generator launching in June will be the catalyst for a surge of new apps on the ICP platform.
