Hola Tuesday!
The new boy next door is quite loud, literally. He's like on speakers, even when he is on the phone with his lady. But thanks to him, I had an inspiration for the day's tunes. The first one (well, the title of it anyway) describes how I feel each time I hear him talk, lol!
Let's have a listen first.
Holly Humberstone - The Walls Are Way Too Thin
Joke aside, I encountered this song not long ago and thought it was one I could listen to at any time. The second EP by Holly, an English singer-songwriter, was well-received by critics. One from Under the Radar editor said, and I quote:
This song provides proof positive that Humberstone is perhaps the brightest Gen Z singer/songwriter to emerge from the U.K. in quite some time. The EP deals with a sense of displacement, of messy relationships, of things falling apart, both physically and emotionally, and attempting to move on whilst trying to find your place in the world." src
I didn't know Holly, nor heard any of her other songs before this. But because I'm open to discovering artists and genres (unlike in the past, when I was only into country and pop), I played her music without judgment. And guess what? I enjoyed these three, hence they are my 3 for TTT.
By the way, Holly won the Brit Awards for Rising Star in 2022 for the above song.
The next tune still showcases Holly's emotive vocals.
Holly Humberstone - Sleep Tight
I liked this as it is easy on the ears. Her tone is quite soft but powerful, with a haunting quality that further enhances the song's lyrics. The blend of electronic instrumentation and acoustic is gentle on the eardrums, too.
And here's the last and third tune for the day:
Holly Humberstone - London is Lonely
Another song featuring her soft and emotive voice. The melodic hooks created a sense of longing and solitude. The artist surely isn't afraid to show vulnerability in her music.
And a bonus song, because why not? I like this too!
Holly Humberstone - Scarlett
Another emotional song, its lyrics dealing with a one-sided romantic relationship. But what I really liked about this piece is its fun beats and the clean, melodic guitar riffs. It's one I could sing along with when I feel like it.
And with that, I end this week's edition in participation to the Three Tune Tuesday initiative by Ablaze.
