Recientemente ha sido publicada la iniciativa Desafíos diarios para pensar para este mes de junio que ha comenzado con una propuesta interesante para reflexionar. Por ejemplo, para este día 1 del mes, la invitación se circunscribe a la pregunta " ¿Cual es el lugar del humanismo en la nueva era digital?" y por eso he titulado este breve artículo como "El quehacer de las humanidades", ahora bien, sin pretender un párrafo introductorio demasiado extenso y aburrido, vamos al meollo del asunto.
Sobre el quehacer de las humanidades hoy
Solemos pensar que vivimos momentos únicos, que enfrentamos un porvenir incierto, pero, ¿Cuando en la historia hemos estado frente a un porvenir cierto? o ¿cuando el desarrollo técnologico no implicado retos y asuntos que pensar?
Y precisamente en ese "asuntos que pensar" es donde las humanidades juegan un rol no solo importante sino determinante. El quehacer de las humanidades es pensar lo humano en sus diferentes ámbitos. Creo que solemos mirar el panorama desde puntos de vista muy específicos, cosa que nos permite profundizar pero, que también dificulta en cierto sentido poder aprecciar el horizonte todo.
Frente a la nueva era digital hay muchas cosas que hay que pensar, y repensar, ya que cada desarrollo tecnológico imprime en la condición humana ciertos modos de ser, por solo trear un par de ejemplos, la blockchain promueve la transparencia cosa que implica repensar muchas cosas, porque, aunque nos guste hablar de la transparencia como un buen valor, que se tenga que desarrollar una herramienta que sea transparente per se, no dice que tengamos como sociedad muy bien interiorizado tal valor.
El otro ejemplo que viene a mi mente es pensar en las optimizaciones y atajos que nos propone la IA, que al parecer promete hacer las cosas que nosotros hacemos, mejor, en menor tiempo, aunque de esto hay mucha tela que cortar y obviamente las especilaciones al respecto sobreabundan, mejor lo dejamos para otro momento y volvamos a disertar sobre el quehacer de las humanidades, que de cara a las actualizaciones y desarrollos tecnológicos es más que imperativo una constante refleción crítica de lo humano y en este punto es donde me parece el centro de toda la reflexión.
¿Qué es lo humano? Podría ser la pregunta en torno giren todas las disciplinas que componen las humanidades, por lo que el quehacer de las humanidades es, sigue y segurá siendo siempre el mismo, pensar lo humano de manera crítica y reflexiva con el propósito de crear perspectivas valiosas que nos permitan no solo edificar nuestro ser y sentido en el mundo, sino de crerar una cibilización que pueda trascender.
Socialemente hablando se suele asociar con el progreso como un aspecto que solo le compete a lo economico, cuando son las disciplinas humanas en comunicación con todos los demás saberes en cierta horizontalidad lo que va edificando eso que somos hoy y lo que seremos mañana, partiendo precisamente de lo que hemos sido en otros tiempos.
Las humanidades no pasarán de moda, ni serán en sentido estricto relegadas por el desarrollo tecnológico, sino que como siempre encontraran espacio y cabida precisamente donde no son llamadas o del todo bienvenidas.

The [Daily Challenges to Think] initiative (@eudemo/initiative-daily-challenges-to-think--hbn) has recently been published for the month of June and has begun with an interesting proposal for reflection. For example, for this first day of the month, the invitation is circumscribed to the question “ What is the place of humanism in the new digital era? ‘ and that is why I have entitled this brief article as ’The task of the humanities”, now, without pretending a too long and boring introductory paragraph, let's get to the heart of the matter.
On the humanities today
We tend to think that we live in unique moments, that we face an uncertain future, but when in history have we ever faced a certain future, or when has technological development not implied challenges and issues to think about?
And it is precisely in this “matters to think about” that the humanities play a role that is not only important but decisive. The task of the humanities is to think about the human in its different spheres. I believe that we tend to look at the panorama from very specific points of view, which allows us to go deeper but also makes it difficult in a certain sense to appreciate the whole horizon.
Faced with the new digital era there are many things to think about, and rethink, since each technological development imprints on the human condition certain ways of being, just to give a couple of examples, the blockchain promotes transparency which implies rethinking many things, because, although we like to talk about transparency as a good value, the fact that we have to develop a tool that is transparent per se, does not say that we have as a society very well internalized such a value.
The other example that comes to my mind is to think about the optimizations and shortcuts proposed by AI, which apparently promises to do the things we do, better, in less time, although there is much to be done about this and obviously there is an overabundance of speculations about it, we better leave it for another time and return to discuss the work of the humanities, which in the face of technological updates and developments is more than imperative a constant critical reflection of the human and at this point is where I think the center of the whole reflection.
What is the human? It could be the question around which all the disciplines that make up the humanities revolve, so the task of the humanities is, remains and will always remain the same, to think about the human in a critical and reflective way in order to create valuable perspectives that allow us not only to build our being and meaning in the world, but to create a consciousness that can transcend.
Socially speaking, it is usually associated with progress as an aspect that only concerns the economy, when it is the human disciplines in communication with all other knowledge in a certain horizontality that is building what we are today and what we will be tomorrow, starting precisely from what we have been in other times.
The humanities will not go out of fashion, nor will they be strictly speaking relegated by technological development, but as always they will find space and place precisely where they are not called or welcomed at all.
