Entre los años 2010 y 2014 fui estudiante religioso, es decir, estaba formándome como sacerdote para la iglesia católica en la Congregación del Santísimo Redentor, y recuerdo muy bien como vivimos en el seminario el pasado cónclave en marzo 2013, cuando el Cardenal Jorge Mario Bergoglio oriundo de Argentina fue escogido como sucesor de Pedro. Ahora, tras su muerte se ha celebrado el cónclave y una vez mas la fumata blanca a anunciado la elección de un nuevo pontífice.
Ahora bien, me gustaría decir que hoy quiero abandonar un poco la corriente filosófica en mi blog cuando de artículos se trata, y con mucho cariño y profunda cercanía escribiré estas líneas sobre lo que pienso sobre esté nuevo periodo de la iglesia católica con la elección de un nuevo obispo de Roma.
Aunque bien afirme que no soy demasiado practicante, me considero católico y desde mi cercanía con la iglesia me siento parte de esta gran familia que intenta seguir los pasos de Jesús.

El humo blanco se izó sobre la ciudad inmortal y el mundo sabía que un nuevo papa ha sido escogido, en este punto debo confesar que nunca el Cardenal Robert Francis Prevost Martínez lo consideré como un posible favorito para ser papa, me inclinaba mas hacia Parolin o Tagle, quizá influido por los medios, pero, como decimos siempre, Dios escribe recto en líneas torcidas, la iglesia siempre tiende a sorprendernos.

Decía con alegría el encargado por el colegio cardenalicio en el balcón en San Pedro, unos minutos saludaba el nuevo papa, que se hizo llamar LEÓN XIV y quizá muchos pensarán por qué este nombre y no otro. Precisamente sobre este asunto quiero disertar un poco. No me enfocaré tanto es aspectos biográficos o sobre la vida del ahora papa el cardenal Prevost, eso lo puedes conseguir en internet. Es posible que su curriculum como sacerdote, obispo y cardenal digan mucho de su persona y trabajo, pero, el papa no es el cardenal Prevost de origen estodounidense y nacionalizado peruano, el papa es Leon XIV.
¿Por qué LEON XIV?
Hay que tener en cuenta que cada nombre escogido por un papa dice mucho de lo que pretende sea su pontificado, y como lo hemos visto han habido 13 papas con el mismo nombre y aunque no pasaremos por cada uno de estas personalidades, si creo que es importante detenerse en el primer papa León, también conocido como León Magno y más recientemente en León XIII.
Aunque no soy un experto en historia, mucho menos en historia de la iglesia, pero en mi estadía en el seminario, como cualquier seminarista, se nos invita a estudiar la historia de la iglesia y hay hitos en la historia que siempre se recuerdan un poco. Pues, el papa León Magno tuvo que salvar a la iglesia católica de la conquista de Atila el huno, por allá a mediados del año 400, quizá por eso se le conoce como León Magno o León el Grande, y este episodio quizá el más conocido de su papado, ya que al encontrarse con Atila en medio de su campaña invadiendo Europa, León, acordó un tratado de paz a lo que Atila dio media vuelta y regreso con sus tropas sin invadir Roma o lo que eran los estados pontificios.

Ahora bien, ¿Quién fue León XIII? Y precisamente sobre esté papa podemos decir muchas cosas, pero, simplificando un poco el asunto digamos que ha sido el papa que le toco vivir (como papa) el paso del siglo XIX al siglo XX. Como antecesor tuvo a un papa muy conservador, hablo de Pío IX quien hace el concilio vaticano I para ratificar a una iglesia en una línea muy conservadora en una época de cambios, y luego a llegar León XIII escribe una encíclica que recomiendo leerla, es interesante, llamada Rerum novarum o sobre las cosas nuevas por su traducción al español. Lo que me parece una propuesta interesante ya que frente al conservadurismo eclesial de cara a los muchos cambios del mundo, escribe un texto que invita a pensar precisamente sobre las cosas nuevas.
Ya para concluir, me gustaría decir que objetivamente hablando no podemos saber como será el pontificado del recién llamado a la silla de Pedro, pero, es lícito preguntarse:
- ¿La iglesia necesita ser salvada?
- ¿Es tiempo de pensar en las cosas nuevas del mundo?
Vivimos en una época de muchos cambios y entender un poco no solo el contexto actual sino la historia es importante para discernir nuestro porvenir en el mundo y la iglesia más que una institución política, que no digo que no lo sea, es una estructura religiosa que acompaña a las personas en su peregrinar en el mundo. Ahora si, para concluir me gustaría citar algunas de las primeras frases del papa León XIV:
"Quisiera que este saludo de paz llegue hasta sus corazones, alcance a sus familias, a todas las personas, a todos los pueblos, a toda la tierra. La paz esté con ustedes."
"Queremos ser una iglesia sin hogar, una iglesia que camina, que busca siempre la paz, la caridad y estar cerca de quienes sufren."
"Ayúdennos también ustedes, y los unos a los otros, a construir puentes con el dialogo y el encuentro, uniéndonos todos para ser un solo pueblo siempre en paz."

Habemus papam

Now then, Who was Leo XIII? We live in a time of many changes and understanding not only the current context but also history is important to discern our future in the world and the church more than a political institution, which I am not saying it is not, it is a religious structure that accompanies people in their pilgrimage in the world.
