El pasado sábado pasado, precisamente Sábado Santo, después de muchos años volví a vivir una vigilia pascual, celebración que podría decirse es la más importante de todo el año para el mundo cristiano católico ya que tras conmemorar la muerte de Jesús, se da paso a celebrar su resurrección. Esta celebración, es un hito en el año litúrgico ya que no sólo marca un antes y un después, sino que es una celebración rica símbolos, rica en lecturas de la biblia y una serie de momentos que le convierten en un compendio de elementos que si se viven con apertura de espíritu pueden brindarnos un avivamiento de la fe.
Con lo dicho anteriormente no digo que la fe dependa de manifestaciones externas para ser lo que es, pero, hay elementos que vividos de cierto modo pueden ayudarnos a visualizar perspectivas diferentes y sobre todo enriquecedoras. Dicho esto, quiero hoy hablar un poco de algunos elementos y momentos de la celebración además compartir con el mundo algunas de las fotos que tomé en la noche del sábado en la vigilia pascual.
Como antesala a la celebración se recomienda llevar una vela blanca y un bote de agua, si no sabes para qué, descuida ya lo diré en breve. Al llegar, aunque las personas buscan ubicarse en algún lugar dentro del templo, olvidan que la celebración comienza afuera, alrededor de una fogata, pues se inicia con la bendición del fuego.
Se enciende el cirio Pascual con la llama de la fogata, y del cirio se encienden las velas. Lo bonito acá es que el fuego se comparte de persona a personas, lo que me hace pensar que la vida no es en soledad sino en sociedad.
Se hace la procesión con las velas dentro del templo oscuro, se continúa con las lecturas. Haciendo un recorrido desde el Génesis, pasando por el éxodo y intentando resumir en la medida de lo posible la historia de la salvación hasta la lectura de un pasaje del evangelio, se encienden las luces de recita el pregón pascual, se cantan las letanías y se bendice el agua.
También se vuelve a renovar la fe, tal cual como en el bautismo y un montón de cosas que cualquier cosa que diga no le hace justicia. Hablamos de una celebración que en su formato corto dura unas 3 horas. Aunque el tiempo realmente pasa volando.
Debo decir que hace años no participaba en una vigilia pascual, y fue realmente significativo el momento vivido el pasado. Ahora bien, quiero terminar esta breve reseña del Sábado Santo, volviendo la mirada a las palabras del Patriarca de Jerusalen.
Y es que la resurrección podemos interpretarla como la imposibilidad de atrapar a Dios, “Dios no se deja atrapar" pues no está donde lo hemos dejado, o en otras palabras Dios no está donde creemos que está. Eso parece simple, pero si lo piensas bien es profundo.

Easter Vigil 2026
Last Saturday—Holy Saturday, to be exact—I attended an Easter Vigil for the first time in many years. This celebration is arguably the most important of the entire year for the Catholic Christian world, as it commemorates the death of Jesus and then moves on to celebrate his resurrection. This celebration is a milestone in the liturgical year, as it not only marks a turning point but is also a celebration rich in symbols, rich in Bible readings, and a series of moments that make it a compendium of elements which, if experienced with an open spirit, can offer us a renewal of faith.
By saying this, I don’t mean that faith depends on external expressions to be what it is, but there are elements that, when experienced in a certain way, can help us see different and, above all, enriching perspectives. That said, today I want to talk a little about some elements and moments of the celebration, as well as share with the world some of the photos I took on Saturday night during the Easter Vigil.
As a prelude to the celebration, it is recommended to bring a white candle and a container of water; if you don’t know why, don’t worry—I’ll explain shortly. Upon arrival, although people look for a spot inside the church, they forget that the celebration begins outside, around a bonfire, as it starts with the blessing of the fire.
The Paschal candle is lit with the flame from the bonfire, and the candles are lit from the Paschal candle. The beautiful thing here is that the fire is passed from person to person, which makes me think that life is not lived in solitude but in community.
A procession with the candles takes place inside the dark church, followed by the readings. Tracing a path from Genesis, through the Exodus, and attempting to summarize as much as possible the history of salvation up to the reading of a Gospel passage, the lights are turned on, the Easter Proclamation is recited, the litanies are sung, and the water is blessed.
Faith is also renewed, just as in baptism, and there are so many other elements that no words I could use would do them justice. We’re talking about a celebration that, in its short form, lasts about three hours. Though time really does fly by.
I must say that I hadn’t participated in an Easter Vigil in years, and the experience I had last night was truly meaningful. Now, I want to conclude this brief account of Holy Saturday by turning our attention to the words of the Patriarch of Jerusalem.
The fact is, we can interpret the resurrection as the impossibility of capturing God—“God cannot be captured”—because He is not where we left Him, or in other words, God is not where we think He is. That seems simple, but if you think about it, it’s profound.
