This past week I drove up north for work and stopped off at Bruntingthorpe airfield. My family are avid fans of the aircraft in the V force, Britains answer to nuclear threats from the Soviets and acted as a deterrent that could be scrambled and were fast enough to retaliate.
The force consisted of three aircraft- Victor, Vulcan & Valiant. The Vulcan has been in a previous post, seen here to the left of the image is the Victor.
The airfield is home to a private collection of around 20 cold war era jets, most of which were once capable of fast taxi runs whilst others were being restored to that condition.
This particular Victor once lifted all the wheels off the ground in a well documented mishap and the pilot ended up bringing the plane down by himself after the co-pilot froze at the controls when he was told to throttle off.
Unfortunately, the museum closed in 2020 and the aircraft that didn't fit in hangars were clumped up in a corner where no one can see them and it appears they are slowly deteriorating.
There is hope that it will reopen in the next few years.
Panorama of the airfield and how close the aircraft are to a public road. The airfield now houses stock of new vehicles and many engineering companies are based there.
Take care everyone!
