Dear Hivers and friends of knives,
I just noticed (via a post from ) that there is now a Knives community on Hive. Good reason to post something about a knive I carry almost on a daily basis - one of the small "basic folders" of Extrema Ratio.
Yes, I belong to the (small?) group of people who wear a knive wherever they go. Sometimes (not often) I forget it, and then if I need it my hand goes nevertheless down to the pocket in a reflex 😀.
Even if you are not in the wilderness, you would not believe how useful it is to have a knive around, even in the kitchen. E.g. to open something is for me way faster than searching for scissors, grab it, use it and store it back.
In the past it was in Austria quite common that every male had a pocket knive (not sure however about other parts of the world), nowadays it is increasingly becoming weird to do so, isn´t it. At least for the socalled Western civilization, for some other population groups it is still quite common even to sort out conflicts using knives (but that is another story).
Anyway my say is:
"Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it."
Because you never know for which purpose you might need it one day!
Extrema Ratio´s knives are not the cheapest, but so far the few I have are every cent worth it. They are to a large extent manually manufactured, there are some interesting factory tour videos on Youtube, check them out so see how such a knive is manufactured step by step.
This BF M1A2 is one one the smaller folding knives which really fit everywhere. The good thing: If you use it in a civilian setting like an office or so, you won´t get judged as weirdo (by those afraid of anything weapon-like). It is too small to appear dangerous. But still a sharp, reliable blade (that keeps its sharpness well), a strong liner lock, a stable handle, and all the quality you expect of a knive that costs app. 150€. They give you a lifetime warranty on materials and manufacturing defects.
From this side yo see the awl and the flathead screwdriver that were added. The awl comes in quite handy. The only downside is that it has no lock, but not critical for the purpose the awl was originally made for. For some creative usages however, like taking the knive in your fist with the awl sticking out, I would be cautious.
What I really like is the clip which is made in such a way that the knive completely disappears in the pocket.
Overall this is a very well crafted piece of steel / aluminum!
Anybody here who has some knives from Extrema Ratio?
