It is Thursday , everything looking calm as usual, until I stumbled upon an old photo that instantly took me down memory lane with a smiley face. It was just like yesterday but in reality, 17 years have passed. The picture was from way back in 2008, a Wednesday afternoon to be precise. I was in secondary school then, and the photo featured six friends of mine, by name ,Chinedu, Tim, Emma, Jame, Joseph, and me.
We had just finished supervising our junior students during one of our school’s clean-up exercises. The sun was mild that faithful Wednesday, we had all the junior class students outside for environmental sanitation . We felt a sense of responsibility, and that day, there was a unique bond that connected us. It was not long ,we were newly handed the school environmental duties as the most senior student of Government science secondary school karu, every Wednesday all the junior students are under our supervision during sanitation in the school premises.
After the general cleaning exercise that day, I suggested we take a picture to capture the moment. It was one of those simple ideas that later turned into lifelong treasures.till this day am grateful I suggested the idea and quickly Joseph seconded the motion , just like a flash, the school photographer was called , We stood close, shoulders touching, the taller ones among us sat on a stone including me, so as to strike a comfortable pose. with tired smiles from sanitation ,but the joy in our eyes was genuine.
Gazing at the photo today, I can’t help but feel grateful for the decision to take this history photograph. It has become more than just an image , it's a timeless reminder of youthful friendship, innocence, and unity, even though we were all young then, our teachers chose us as duty prefect, to enforce a sense of discipline and responsibility among the other students.
At this present time, life has taken each of us in different directions, but that photo has stood strong against time, preserving not just faces, but memories, stories, and laughter whenever I come across it. I can't wait to share the memories it contained in the picture for my children.
Throwback Thursday #TbT, brought more than awakening a feeling , it revived a moment that still warms my heart till this very day. Thanks for stopping by my page.
