How do you explain to a non-Nigerian audience that you spent 7 years at the university?
Let me start by showing off 🦚. I'm done with my finals exams at the University of Lagos, Civil Engineering Department. Actually I have been done for about two months now and didn't really have the intention of posting on hive before.
But, I was playing with my phone some days ago then I came across my old pictures and I just kept on smiling to myself because I was proud of myself and the memories I had made and then considered posting on Hive.
We haven't done the main ceremony, but you're allowed to still call me a Graduate. 🎓
So it's been about two months since I finished my final exams and also defended my final year project.
It was a truly memorable moment for me because I had already spent seven years in school due to repeated lecturers' strikes caused by insufficient resources allocated by the government to the University system. I was overjoyed to finally graduate and move on to the next phase of my life.
Walk with me; Let's Rewind the Hands of Time ⏰
The fun started from sign-out.
You must be wondering, why is the young man in glasses damaging my white shirt? Lol.
Well, this is a culture in Nigerian Universities; we sign out of the University by writing on a white shirt.
At first, I was reluctant to participate because I didn’t have much money, and it felt wasteful to spend my limited funds on a white T-shirt just for the occasion. However, my older sister persuaded me to join, and I'm glad I listened to her because I truly enjoyed being part of the cultural experience.
The Image below was taken 30th, August 2025 in the quadrangle of the Faculty of Engineering in Unilag, Lagos Nigeria. I also damaged the shirt of my friends too 😅. There was good music, we danced and we ateee.
Project Defense

A few days after signing out, I had my Project Defense which was 3rd of September. I worked on a paper on urban floods and went further to build a web application that visualizes flood hazards. We typically have to create PowerPoint presentations after submitting our paper and then present it to the professors in the Civil Engineering department.
I killed it; the panel loved my work. In the gif above, I was presenting my paper on Urban flood.
I and friends successfully defended our projects and then walked like senior men out of the Faculty of Engineering.
Who said Engineering boys can't look cool?? 🔥 , we aren't totally Nerds 😂😂😂
I was really happy. After I and my friends were done, we walked along Jaja at University of Lagos and took loads of pictures.
It was really nice sharing my experience with this community. Its crazy how I was smiling when seeing my pictures again, I just had to cook up a post quick on Hive before I lost the Enthusiasm and Ecstasy.
I hope you enjoyed reading my thoughts through your screen, see you next Thursday,
Byyee
