Today is the first day back to work after the Christmas and New Year holidays. It was great to have all these days off... of course, it gave me more time to be more present at Hive. We will see how I get back into the routine and combine all the activities into my days - as everyone does, I guess! 😉
And I am also sure you all know this feeling of how it is always kind of hard to start working after the holidays, although in my case I have the desire to see my students again. I won't see some of them anymore starting this month, I simply have to reduce the number of days I travel to work because it is exhausting. I will miss them and some of them will miss me. When I announced the news last month, my gaze met that of a dear student. Our eyes got wet but we managed not to cry; we hugged and said goodbye.
I already went through a very similar situation, with the little students of the music school where I worked many years ago. But there the goodbye was more radical and difficult. I moved to another country.
Before I moved, I worked at this music school that you see in the photos. The concert hall is beautiful, I have fond memories of it. And the stairs... how many times I climbed there, both when I was a student and when I was already working. That is the same school where I started learning to play the piano, which I graduated from and went to another city to high school and later to college, and then I came back and immediately got a job as a piano teacher there. A blessing, it is what it was for me.
The school published a book when it celebrated its 60th anniversary (I still worked there). There appeared all the students who learned in this institution (at least by name) and all the teachers who gave lessons, the years, achievements, performances and important people who came out from that school. I have a copy of that book with me, today I opened a page where I stood with my colleagues (no, I will not post that photo 😂) and leafed through the book.
It is actually interesting how a group of people from the past who wanted to show others music influenced the community and the town, how the cultural level of the society can improve when there are people who decide to share their skills. We can definitely consider it a success when a school can justify its establishment and existence by becoming the pillar of musical and cultural life in one place. Many holidays, events, performances and concerts were supported by the teachers and students throughout decades. I remember that countless times we played at events that the city organized... though those events were not paid hahaha, it was supposed the musicians would play because they liked it. Somehow it is true, as we do it to our satisfaction, although to the satisfaction of the surroundings too as music ennobles all people, bringing joy, happiness or sadness to all hearts.
Well, back to the present and my day. I am running to work, maybe the publish button will be pressed in a break between two lessons, I don't know lol, but I suppose I had some feelings of longing that led me to remember my first workplace and write this post.
