Yesterday, early evening, after having poured some dry food in 3 different cat bowls, Clare’s our 3 felines ( Fridha, Beniamino and Betty ) started eating immediately.
After observing them for a wee while, I realized that this was my chance to go for another speed drawing of (our) cats.
It's fair to say that I like the challenge of having a limited amount of time to draw these beasties, while they perform some kind of ritual.
In fact, I find this way more fun than either studying them and basing a drawing on that or taking a photo first and then making a drawing by mostly 'copying' that photo.
I like movement and I prefer organic, rough art over perfectionist realism. For me it's more about the overall feel than the result.
Also, analog art is my favorite kind of art. Even more now, since we seem to be living in a time were AI and lazy ‘art’ are taking over ( the Internet ).
In fact, I am ‘drawn’ more and more to hand drawn- and hand written art and it sure helps to have a creative life partner on my side who feels similar and is – right now – needle working away in her atelier.
By the way, if you haven’t done so already or aren’t following Clare ( )’s blog yet, make sure to read her latest update, shared earlier today, about us having found our land. It took us a mere 10 months and 10 days of being together, eventhough it feels like 10 years haha!

To go back to today’s post...
As you might be able to spot from my drawing, I didn’t have much time to draw the cats.
Let's say that, after a couple of minutes, they started to leave the premises, one by one. They made their way out of the little cat door, that can be seen in the top right of my drawing ( near Betty's tail ), to go into the street below and onto the garden(s), to likely do a number two and/ or get some exercise.
Nevertheless, Clare was able to distinguish the three different cats thanks to the patterns I drew on their fur and/ or the size I drew them at.
From left to right/ front to back, I present to you: Fridha, Beniamino and Betty.
For your information and/or entertainment, I wrote about and drew parping ( aka farting ) cats several times before ( cat-apulted by parping and A parp a day keeps the doctor away ) and I even shared a story about/ a drawing based on stepping into cat shit for the umptieth time as can be read in: Just another 'shitty' day in Ittylay
If you missed those and got some time to spare, I suggest checking those entries out. Especially if you want to have a laugh and see some more hand drawn art.
I will definitely be drawing more cats in the coming months and or years
Who would have thought this would happen to a guy who grew up with dogs only? I certainly wouldnt
and am even considering to expose and or sell some of my drawings, next month, at a cultural event that will take place here at the start of August.
I hope to hang some of my drawings on the wall of what is now the cat (‘s eating) room, the exact same place where Clare is planning to exhibit her clothing, during that one week event. We are thinking of having our (cat)doors open for at least a weekend.
By that time, the two of us will have the keys to our new plot of land and we will be going back and forth between our current house and our little cottage/cassetta in la campagna. The plan is to slowly move things over and – likely – one cat at a time.
Exciting times, to say the least!
STAY TUNED...
