The above art was made in June 2022 on a little free fractal art program, Apophysis 2.09, in the quiet of a midnight much like this one -- it is exactly 12 midnight, May 14, 2026, as I begin this post.
For decades, off and on, I have had the care of older relatives who did not settle down until at least 11:00pm, and in the intervening years I have been very active in community service to other seniors and many, many children. I started so early with that work with other children that I was not quite an adult myself, so, I have students who are in their late 30s while I am just 45 myself.
But, beyond all things done for others, I am a creative first... fractal art came behind writing at age nine, composing by age 11, and dabbling in art here and there along the way. Responsibility came by age 16 in teaching younger children music, and caretaking by age 19, but when all was quiet at home and in the city, music would sing in my head again, and also I might take an hour to write. My first job was swing shift, meaning I got home around midnight, and still took an hour to write.
I happened to see this community because over in Freewriters Community, to close my day, I have taken an hour to write, and thus visit one of the fictional universes I have built on Hive as a kind refuge for myself and others to enjoy ... a place to smile and laugh and learn as I mix and match the stories of children and elders that I have loved with the wisdom of my elders and often of Scripture, so that I may close my day in the best mind possible even though the work will be posted much later today. Before my Hive journey, I made many such pieces of art as you see above in the same hour, and wrote much music ... and sometimes I still take an hour or two and work on those things. But today I have extended my hour for ten minutes to stop in here and write, and be glad to meet other midnight owls on Hive as perhaps we all have time to become ourselves, shielded in the darkness and quiet of midnight.
