Good day, people of Hive! Welcome to my blog. Today's topic is from Midnight Letters which says:What is one skill you wish you could learn overnight? So let's dive in.
Honestly, if I had the chance to learn one skill overnight and wake up as a master in it, the skill I would choose is public speaking. Being able to stand in front of people and talk confidently is something I really admire. Whenever I see some people speaking boldly in front of a crowd without fear, I always admire them.
The truth is, from my primary school days up to this moment in the university, I have not been able to face a crowd because I always feel shy and scared. The fear of โwhat if I say something and mistakenly make a mistake and people start making jest of meโ is always in my mind. Even whenever we are doing presentations and I am given a part to present during our group presentation. When I get home I will make sure to do more research about my part and the topic and start practicing it.
To the extent that I will stand in front of the mirror and start practicing speaking confidently. But on the day of the presentation, when it is my turn to present, I will start getting shy and scared, and my body will begins to sweat. Everything I have read will suddenly disappears at that moment. Not because I don't know it, but because I am scared of the eyes people will put on me.
The truth is that many people actually have good ideas in their heads, but the problem is expressing those ideas when they are in front of others. Some people feel shy or nervous. Because of this, they may keep quiet even when they have something meaningful to say. That is why I believe public speaking is a very important skill.
If I could learn this skill overnight, it would help me in many areas of my life. Just like I said earlier, there are times when we are asked to present our work, and I feel scared when it is my turn to speak, especially when many people are looking at me. But someone who is good at speaking can stand up confidently, explain their points clearly, and answer questions without fear.
Another reason I would love to learn this skill is because it can open many opportunities. People who communicate well often stand out wherever they go. They can easily express their thoughts anywhere they find themselves, whether in meetings, gatherings, public events, and so on. And yes, not to forget that being able to speak well can help a person build confidence and connect better with people around them.
Yes, I know learning a skill like this is not something that happens quickly. It usually takes time, practice, and patience. We have many people who start practicing public speaking in front of their friends. As they continue practicing everyday, they slowly become more comfortable and bold in speaking in front of larger groups.
As for me, I can see some changes in my public speaking, but that doesn't mean I still don't get scared or shy while presenting. Whenever I am presenting, I try not to look too much at my coursemates because once I do, I may forget everything at that moment and start feeling scared.
Just like I said earlier, fear is one of the biggest reasons many people avoid speaking in public. They worry about making mistakes or being laughed at. But the truth is that everyone makes mistakes while learning. Even people who are great speakers today were once beginners who had to practice many times before they became confident.
In conclusion, being able to speak confidently and boldly in front of people is a skill that can help me a lot . That is why, if I had the chance to master any skill overnight, public speaking would definitely be the one I would choose.
This is my entry for the Midnight letters Prompt #22.
