🇺🇸 ~ There’s a character whose deaths I haven’t quite been able to come to terms with, even though the work he appears in has a " a happy ending,“ and yes, I said ”deaths" in the plural and not the singular because this character DIES THREE TIMES throughout his existence, and I had never read anything even remotely similar. That, and the context of each death, left such a deep impression on me (the closest comparison, I think, would be Lestat from Anne Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles).

What’s worse than watching one extraordinary character die? Knowing that he dies three times, and always “returns” through sheer willpower. In “Heaven Official’s Blessing” (天官赐福), this character is born under the star of misfortune; his destiny is suffering and spreading bad luck to everything around him; he has a miserable childhood and a youth cut short before reaching maturity, dying murdered on a battlefield at age 17, in the midst of a war he decides to join not out of nationalism but out of the faith and devotion he feels for his God:

The Crown Prince of Xian Le, Xie Lian, who ascended to the heavens on his own merit, becoming “The Flower-Crowned Martial God,” and who decided to break the rules of the Celestial Capital and return to earth to involve himself in mortal affairs (it all ends very badly for everyone).

🇪🇸 ~ Existe un personaje cuyas muertes no he logrado digerir del todo, a pesar de que la obra a la que pertenece tenga "un final feliz", y si, dije "muertes" en plural y no singular porque este personaje MUERE 3 VECES a lo largo de su existencia y jamás había leído algo ni remotamente parecido, por eso y el contexto de cada muerte me marcó tanto (lo mas cercano a él creo que sería Lestad de "Las Crónicas Vampíricas" de Anne Rice).

¿Qué es peor que ver morir a 1 personaje extraordinario?, saber que muere 3 veces, y siempre "regresa" por pura fuerza de voluntad. En "Heaven Official's Blessing" (天官赐福) este personaje nace bajo la estrella de la desgracia, su destino es el sufrimiento y contagiar de mala suerte a todo lo que lo rodea, tiene una infancia miserable y una juventud que se corta antes de llegar a la madurez, falleciendo asesinado en un campo de batalla a los 17 años, en medio de una guerra en la que decide participar no por nacionalismo sino por la fé y devoción que siente por su Dios:

El príncipe heredero de Xian Le, Xie Lian, quien ascendió a los cielos por merito propio convirtiéndose en "El Dios Marcial Coronado en Flores", y quien decidió romper las reglas de la Capital Celestial, y volver a la tierra a involucrarse en asuntos mortales (todo termina muy mal para todos).

The worst is yet to come: HongEr (our young fallen soldier, who later renames himself “Hua Cheng”) is now a ghost. After a long series of violent events, he evolves into a “ghost of rage.” He remains dead, but now possesses a solid, human form and is capable of fighting; In this “second life,” he dies violently once more, taking his God’s place to be consumed by a tide of vengeful souls poised to unleash a deadly disease in the form of a pandemic.

Thus, long afterward, Hua Cheng returns to life and embarks on a journey spanning many years to rise in power and status among the undead, becoming a ghost king, or a “devastation-level calamity.” He is now one of the most powerful characters in the universe encompassed by these novels, and yet, the author decides that we haven’t suffered enough—nor have the protagonists— and Hua Cheng “dies” a third time, after lending all his strength to Xie Lian so he can defeat the novel’s main villain.

Although Hua Cheng returns to Xie Lian a year after the final battle, that doesn’t make this character’s deaths any less painful; they are all horrifying and, at the same time, they are all a sacrifice for the purest love, without expecting anything in return. Hua Cheng is an incredible, multi-layered character who managed to change his fate more than once, which is strange, because he is neither a hero nor a villain—he simply defies classification, easily transcending labels, and learning his story, just like Xie Lian’s, can deeply affect you.

Lo peor no llega todavía, HongEr (nuestro joven soldado muerto, que en el futuro se re-bautiza a sí mismo como "Hua Cheng") es ahora un fantasma, que tras una larga sucesión de hechos violentos evoluciona hasta transformarse en "un fantasma de la ira", sigue estando muerto, pero ahora tiene forma física sólida, humana, y es capaz de pelear; en esta "segunda vida" muere de nuevo de forma violenta, tomando el lugar de su Dios para ser consumido por una marea de almas rencorosas que están a punto de desencadenar una enfermedad mortal en forma de pandemia.

Así, mucho tiempo después, Hua Cheng vuelve a incorporarse, e inicia un viaje de muchos años para ascender en nivel de fuerza y estatus entre los no vivos, convirtiéndose en un rey fantasma, o "calamidad nivel devastación", ahora es uno de los personajes mas poderosos del universo que abarcan estas novelas, y aún así, la autora decide que no hemos sufrido lo suficiente, ni los protagonistas tampoco, y Hua Cheng "muere" una tercera vez, después de prestarle todas sus fuerzas a Xie Lian para poder derrotar al villano principal de la novela.

Aunque Hua Cheng regresa con Xie Lian un año después de la batalla final, eso no hace que las muertes de este personaje duelan menos, todas son espantosas y al mismo tiempo, todas son un sacrificio por el mas puro amor, sin esperar nada a cambio. Hua Cheng es un personaje increíble con muchas capas que logró cambiar su destino más de una vez, es extraño, porque no es un héroe, tampoco es un villano, simplemente no tiene clasificación, fácilmente trasciende las etiquetas y conocer su historia igual que la de Xie Lian te puede afectar profundamente.
