¡Un saludo especial para Hive School Music! Hace unos días que me enteré de esta comunidad y me parece genial poder compartir, aprender y enseñar algo de música. También quería hablar un poco de el camino que llevo en la música y porque estoy donde estoy.
A special shout out to Hive School Music! A few days ago I found out about this community and I think it's great to be able to share, learn and teach some music. I also wanted to talk a bit about the path I'm taking in music and why I'm where I am.
Desde muy pequeño la música estuvo presente, mis papás decían que en la barriga me ponían audífonos para estimular y trataban de poner varios estilos de sonidos. Más adelante veía esos viejos videos donde bailaba junto a mi hermano con la música que ponían. Como dato curioso, tengo un tío con el que compartimos el mismo nombre y apellido, que es un músico reconocido aquí y en algunas partes de latam. Es por ello que casi nunca uso mi apellido en cuestiones musicales.
From a very young age music was present, my parents said that they put headphones on mom’s belly to stimulate and they tried to play various styles of sounds. Later I saw those old videos where I danced with my brother to the music they played. As a curious fact, I have an uncle with whom we share the same name and surname, who is a renowned musician here and in some parts of Latin America. That is why I almost never use my last name in musical matters.

Pero no fue hasta los 9 o 10 años que empecé a tomar clases de piano en casa. No teníamos un piano así que mi profesor me prestaba el de él, hasta que pronto compramos uno, y es el que ven en mis videos acá. Dejé de tomar clases porque no me gustaba lo que el profe enseñaba, yo siempre tuve preferencia por el rock en todas sus formas. Pero el profe solo quería que yo tocara música clásica. Eso me molestaba y dejé el piano.
But it wasn't until I was 9 or 10 years old that I started taking piano lessons at home. We didn't have a piano so my teacher lent me his, until we soon bought one, and it's the one you see in my videos here. I stopped taking classes because I didn't like what the teacher taught, I always had a preference for rock in all its forms. But the teacher only wanted me to play classical music. That bothered me and I quit the piano.
Años después, vi una pianista que me marcó. Ella era una de las YouTubers de aquella época, al rededor de 2007-2008, donde tocaba covers de rock y metal en piano. Desde ahí me di cuenta que que podía tocar lo que me gustaba en ese instrumento tan bonito. Así que por mi propia cuenta volví a retomar, aprendí todos los acordes, y a puro oído sacaba las canciones.
Years later, I saw a pianist who marked me. She was one of the YouTubers of that time, around 2007-2008, where she played rock and metal covers on piano. From there I realized that I could play what I liked on that beautiful instrument. So on my own, I went back to pick up, I learned all the chords, and I just heard the songs.

Quería seguir los pasos de ella pero como un hobby nada más, así que en el año 2010 subí mi primer video a esa plataforma, con el piano y la cámara digital de esos años. Ese video no lo borré porque es un gran recuerdo para mi. Como veía eso nada más como un pasatiempo, no lo tomaba muy en serio. Después del colegio, quería estudiar una carrera totalmente distinta a esta y así fue.
I wanted to follow in her footsteps but as a hobby nothing more, so in 2010 I uploaded my first video to that platform, with the piano and the digital camera of those years. I did not delete that video because it is a great memory for me. Since I saw that as nothing more than a hobby, I didn't take it very seriously. After high school, I wanted to study a completely different career from this one and that's how it was.

Durante la época de universidad y trabajo, me empezaron a salir eventos para acompañar como pianista a algunos grupos de amigos, era genial porque eran las primeras veces que tocaba con una banda en serio. Tiempo después dejé mi carrera porque la especialidad no estaba en colombia y quería irme al otro lado del mundo a terminarla. Pero no fue así, dejé de estudiar por un tiempo, y después entraría otra vez pero a estudiar música como debe ser.
During the time of university and work, events began to come up for me to accompany some groups of friends as a pianist, it was great because they were the first times that I played with a serious band. Some time later I left my degree because the specialty was not in Colombia and I wanted to go to the other side of the world to finish it. But it wasn't like that, I stopped studying for a while, and then I would enter again but to study music as it should be.
Con uno de mis grupos, viajamos a varias ciudades del país, tocando haciendo amigos y algo de dinero con lo que más nos gustaba, tocar en vivo. Solo tocábamos covers, pero a la gente le gustaba. Yo si quería ir más allá, así que después de graduarme, empecé a mostrar mis canciones y experimentos musicales.
With one of my groups, we traveled to several cities in the country, playing making friends and making some money with what we liked the most, playing live. We only played covers, but people liked it. I did want to go further, so after I graduated, I started showing my songs and musical experiments.

Desde el 2019 estoy con mi proyecto en solitario, Münchhausen. También sigo con los covers en piano. Mi canal de YouTube ha crecido y tengo cierto reconocimiento allí. Empecé a tomarme en serio el negocio de la música y la verdad quiero seguir viviendo de ello. Por eso desde que entré a Hive vi que es una oportunidad grande para seguir con la meta.
Since 2019 I am with my solo project, Münchhausen. I also continue with piano covers. My YouTube channel has grown and I have some recognition there. I started to take the music business seriously and I really want to continue living from it. That is why since I entered Hive I saw that it is a great opportunity to continue with the goal.
No siempre ha sido fácil, para nadie es un secreto que vivir de la música en nuestros países es una cuestión complicada. Dejar una carrera que da cierta seguridad a veces no cae bien para los padres o la gente, solo por ir a tocar. Al principio no me apoyaban para seguir estudiando música, por eso yo me pagué mis estudios. Mis equipos y todo ha sido por mi mismo. Aunque ya eso ha cambiado, mis papás y gente que me rodea me ve feliz con lo que hago, así que ahora son apoyo.
It hasn't always been easy, it's no secret to anyone that making a living from music in our countries is a complicated matter. Leaving a career that gives a certain security sometimes does not go down well with parents or people, just to go play. At first they didn't support me to continue studying music, that's why I paid for my studies. My teams and everything has been by myself. Although that has already changed, my parents and people around me see me happy with what I do, so now they are supportive.
Siento que mi camino está empezando a crecer mucho más y por eso quiero hacer más esfuerzos por llevar una carrera no planeada a que sea mi forma de vida. Agradezco siempre el apoyo que me han dado aquí en Hive y espero seguir haciendo lo que más me gusta en este lugar.
I feel that my path is starting to grow much more and that is why I want to make more efforts to make an unplanned career my way of life. I always appreciate the support you have given me here at Hive and I hope to continue doing what I like the most in this place.
No tengo nombres para mis instrumentos, no creo hacerlo con ninguno. Y un consejo para quienes están aprendiendo es practicar y practicar, y no rendirse en ningún momento. Se que está el desánimo, pero el no rendirse dará resultado para aprender cualquier instrumento.
I don't have names for my instruments, I don't think I do with any of them. And a piece of advice for those who are learning is to practice and practice, and never give up. I know there is discouragement, but not giving up will work to learn any instrument.
