¡Hola hola mis queridos amigos de hive! Feliz año nuevo, espero hayan disfrutado mucho de estas festividades y que estén teniendo un inicio de año muy especial y fructífero. Hoy quiero compartirles una pequeña gran victoria personal que, aunque pueda parecer sencilla, para mi significó muchísimo, después de tres años, finalmente pude cambiar mis lentes.
Hello, hello, my dear friends at Hive! Happy New Year! I hope you enjoyed the holidays and are having a very special and fruitful start to the year. Today I want to share with you a small but significant personal victory that, although it may seem simple, meant a lot to me. After three years, I was finally able to change my glasses.
Para ponerlos un poco en contexto, hace algunos años atrás logré cambiar los lentes que había usado durante más de diez años. Fue un gran avance en ese momento pero la alegría no duró tanto como realmente esperaba ya que sin querer rompí esos lentes nuevos. Esto me obligó a volver a usar los que había tenido desde que empecé la escuela... imagínense ¡ya habían pasado más de quince años desde entonces! Aunque me acostumbré, con el tiempo mi vista fue empeorando y ya veía doble, borroso y con bastante incomodidad.
Así que este año decidí que ya era momento de hacer algo por mí. Aproveché los descuentos que hubo durante los meses de fiesta para que el golpe por pagar esos lentes fuera un poco menos doloroso. Esperé mi día de pago y apenas lo recibí, fui rápidamente con mi mamá rumbo a Maracaibo (la capital del estado donde vivo). Caminamos por el centro y nos dirigimos directo a la óptica que ya tenía ubicada desde hacía tiempo.
To put this into context, a few years ago I managed to replace the glasses I had been wearing for over ten years. It was a big step forward at the time, but the joy didn't last as long as I had hoped, as I accidentally broke those new glasses. This forced me to go back to wearing the ones I had had since I started school... imagine, more than fifteen years had passed since then! Although I got used to them, over time my eyesight got worse and I was seeing double, blurry, and with considerable discomfort.
So this year, I decided it was time to do something for myself. I took advantage of the discounts during the holiday season to make the cost of those glasses a little less painful. I waited for payday, and as soon as I got my paycheck, I quickly went with my mom to Maracaibo (the capital of the state where I live). We walked through downtown and headed straight to the optician's shop that I had had my eye on for a while.
Sin duda, una de las partes más difíciles fue elegir los lentes. Había muchísimos modelos y todos me parecían muy lindos, así que decidir no fue para nada fácil. Pero todo cambió cuando me probé unos lentes oscuros entre marrones y negros. En ese momento sentí que esos eran los indicados, hicimos click de un vez jajaja. Luego me hicieron los exámenes correspondientes para dar con mi nueva formula y esa primera parte quedó lista.
Without a doubt, one of the most difficult parts was choosing the lenses. There were so many models, and I thought they were all very pretty, so deciding was not easy at all. But everything changed when I tried on a pair of dark lenses that were somewhere between brown and black. At that moment, I felt that those were the ones, we clicked right away, ha ha ha. Then they did the necessary tests to determine my new prescription, and that first part was done.
Debo confesar que esa etapa fue la más complicada para mi porque soy muy impaciente y ya quería tener mis lentes conmigo. Pero no, tocaba esperar una semana completa para que estuvieran listos. Para calmar un poco la ansiedad, mi mamá y yo aprovechamos para recorrer el centro comercial, compramos algunas cositas, nos tomamos fotos y luego regresamos a casa.
I must confess that this stage was the most difficult for me because I am very impatient and wanted to have my glasses right away. But no, I had to wait a whole week for them to be ready. To calm my anxiety a little, my mom and I took the opportunity to walk around the mall, buy a few things, take some photos, and then return home.
Esa semana se me hizo eterna, sentí que el tiempo pasaba lentísimo. Pero finalmente llegó el viernes y, por fin, pude tener mis lentes nuevos ¡Volvía a ver nítido otra vez! La felicidad que sentí fue enorme, no me quitaba esos lentes ni para tomarme las fotos como hacía con los anteriores. Quedé realmente satisfecha con todo el proceso y, lo mejor de todo, ya no veo doble.
That week felt like an eternity; time seemed to pass very slowly. But Friday finally arrived, and I was able to get my new glasses. I could see clearly again! I was extremely happy and didn't even take them off to have my picture taken, unlike with my previous glasses. I was really satisfied with the whole process, and best of all, I no longer see double.
A veces, estos pequeños logros también merecen ser celebrados, porque son actos de amor propio.
Sometimes, these small achievements also deserve to be celebrated, because they are acts of self-love.
