Many celebrations in the city take the form of exhibitions of various kinds, and the 25th anniversary of the coronation of the Virgin of Trinidad was no exception.
Muchas celebraciones de la ciudad tienen como forma de festejo el hecho de realizar exposiciones de diversa índole, de las más variadas y el XXV aniversario de la coronación de la virgen de la Trinidad no fue la excepción.

Como siempre recalco en todos estos casos de exposiciones sobre objetos en materia religiosa o cuando visito iglesias lo que resalto es el arte, sobre todo de las esculturas y en este caso adelanto que lo que más me impresionó fue el arte textil, aunque también muchos artículos hechos en oro y plata.
La virgen de la Trinidad no es la patrona de la ciudad, pero tiene una vital importancia para la mayoría de los lugareños ya que hablar de ella es hablar de la veneración a Jesús Cautivo una de las imágenes más nombradas en la ciudad y el lugar donde se encuentran estas esculturas reside en la iglesia San Pablo, que se encuentra en la calle Trinidad. Ambas imágenes son de las más reconocidas cuando de procesiones se habla sobre todo en las fechas de pascua.
Este año se celebra el XXV aniversario de la coronación de esa virgen y por tal motivo se realizó una exposición del ajuar de la misma. La exposición no duro mucho tiempo, se realizó desde el 3 al 19 de noviembre en el Palacio de la Aduana o museo de la Aduana, como una exposición temporal y se denominó “Vestida de sol”.
As I always emphasise in all these cases of exhibitions on religious objects or when I visit churches, what I highlight is the art, especially the sculptures, and in this case I can say that what impressed me most was the textile art, although there were also many items made of gold and silver.The Virgin of the Trinity is not the patron saint of the city, but she is of vital importance to most locals, as to speak of her is to speak of the veneration of Jesus Cautivo, one of the most famous images in the city.
These sculptures are located in the Church of San Pablo, on Trinidad Street. Both images are among the most recognised when it comes to processions, especially during Easter.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the coronation of this Virgin, and for this reason, an exhibition of her trousseau was held. The exhibition did not last long, running from 3 to 19 November at the Palacio de la Aduana or Customs Museum, as a temporary exhibition called ‘Vestida de sol’ (Dressed in Sun).

Tan sólo ingresar pequeños carteles indicaban la sala donde era la muestra, aunque nunca sospeche la grandeza que vería. Se trataba de la conmemoración del aniversario en donde se reconoció la devoción popular que siempre tuvo esta virgen.
La exposición trata del ajuar devocional, que se ha conformado mayormente por donaciones desde un comienzo y luego todo aquello que se fue agregando al patrimonio con el correr de esos 25 años.
El arte que se expuso es de altísima calidad, desde cofres gigantes de plata, coronas de oro y plata, prendas textiles de terciopelo bordadas con hilos de seda y oro y mucho más hacen que el sentido artístico de esta exposición fuera exquisito.
Por supuesto, había una cantidad enorme de personal del museo y de personas de la cofradía de seguridad, aunque por ejemplo las coronas y libros antiguos muy valiosos por el material en que estaban realizados estaban dentro de vitrinas, muy cuidados.
Otro de los materiales usados en los artículos que vemos era el marfil y piedras preciosas como rubies y también mucho de lo pintado era en óleo, orfebrería que era una belleza de ver y el arte textil de maravilla. La mayoría de los bordados con hilos de oro sobre terciopelo son hechos a mano lo que añade un valor incalculable a todo esto que vemos aquí.
Only small signs indicated the room where the exhibition was held, although I never suspected the grandeur I would see. It was an anniversary commemoration recognising the popular devotion that this virgin has always enjoyed.
The exhibition focuses on devotional artefacts, which were mainly donated from the outset and then added to the collection over the course of those 25 years.
The art on display is of the highest quality, from giant silver chests, gold and silver crowns, velvet garments embroidered with silk and gold thread, and much more, making the artistic sense of this exhibition exquisite.
Of course, there was a huge number of museum staff and security personnel, although, for example, the crowns and ancient books, which were very valuable due to the materials they were made of, were kept in display cases and very well cared for.
Other materials used in the items on display included ivory and precious stones such as rubies, and much of the painting was in oil, with beautiful gold and silverwork and wonderful textile art. Most of the gold thread embroidery on velvet is handmade, which adds immeasurable value to everything we see here.

Cada pieza que veía me maravillaba y me sorprendía poder ver tantas cosas hermosa estando tan cerca. Como les digo lo importante para mí es el arte que contienen y la mayoría de las veces lo ha visto en procesiones que pasan, pero sin detenerme en ellas, pero poder ver esos bordados a centímetros nada más fue increíble, como así también ver coronas de oro y plata.
La gran sala estaba acomodada de manera de seguir un orden en la exposición, como siguiendo un camino y al llegar a una zona donde las paredes estaban pintadas de negro y se podían apreciar los mantos bordados, gigantes, me quedé sin palabras. Además, en vitrinas se exponían otros objetos muy importantes, como manos que se le colocan a la virgen con un guante, rosarios y más. Cada paso que daba era asombros, abrir los ojos y mirar tanto, tanto valor, lujo y arte.
Every piece I saw amazed me, and I was surprised to see so many beautiful things so close up. As I said, what matters to me is the art they contain, and most of the time I have seen them in passing processions, but without stopping to look at them. Being able to see those embroideries from just a few centimetres away was incredible, as was seeing the gold and silver crowns.
The large room was arranged in such a way as to follow an order in the exhibition, as if following a path, and when I reached an area where the walls were painted black and I could see the giant embroidered mantles, I was speechless. In addition, other very important objects were displayed in showcases, such as hands that are placed on the Virgin with a glove, rosaries and more. Every step I took was a source of wonder, opening my eyes and seeing so much value, luxury and art.

La última porción del recorrido llevaba a una gran sala, donde me esperaba lo más asombroso, parte del trono donde se lleva a la virgen en las procesiones. Nunca lo había visto tan cerca y lo mejor de todo era que pude ver la parte de arriba con ese bordado maravilloso. Previo a eso una hermosa corona de oro en una vitrina iniciaba el recorrido final.
Más adelante el manto impresionante me esperaba, lo recorrí en toda su extensión, la sensación es indescriptible, pensar que esa prenda fue bordada a mano y los detalles que tiene, les aseguro que estaba encantada de ver semejante obra de arte.
En la sala, en las paredes, estaban escritas algunas frases y también había una foto de la iglesia. Todo estaba ambientado perfectamente y mucha gente estaba allí en ese momento. Traté de que la gente no saliera en las fotografías quería que tuvieran total protagonismo las obras de arte, que por cierto no hay palabras para describir lo bellas que eran.
No esperaba encontrarme con semejante hermosa exposición y la disfruté muchísimo, como un evento de suma importancia para la ciudad.

The last part of the tour led to a large room, where the most amazing thing awaited me: part of the throne on which the Virgin is carried in processions. I had never seen it so close up, and best of all, I could see the top with its wonderful embroidery. Before that, a beautiful gold crown in a display case marked the beginning of the final part of the tour.
Further on, the impressive mantle awaited me. I walked around it in its entirety. The feeling is indescribable, to think that this garment was embroidered by hand and the details it has. I assure you that I was delighted to see such a work of art.
In the hall, on the walls, there were some phrases written and there was also a photo of the church. Everything was perfectly set up and there were many people there at the time. I tried to keep people out of the photographs because I wanted the works of art to take centre stage. There are no words to describe how beautiful they were.
I did not expect to find such a beautiful exhibition, and I enjoyed it very much, as an event of great importance for the city.
