During my childhood days, I do think greener pasture is somewhere green it is now I realized what greener pasture means. These days when youths talk about going out of their country to another country for greener pasture made I ask myself what is this greener pasture all about? Is it a fun ride? Is it a perfect place for every human being to be? Is it a place of comfort? Is it a fun-filled life? I wonder what it is, I will love to see your comments in my box. According to research, I was able to know that greener pasture is a better or more promising situation. Why then do people think they can't live in green pastures in their country? I was privileged to discuss this with a friend and he uttered the same statement to me, he wants to look for greener pasture it took me some minutes before I could give him a reply. With so much confidence in him, he was telling all he would do if he had the opportunity to travel to Malaysia, he was saying it affirmatively that if he should get to Malay( as popularly called in my country) he would become a millionaire and that prompted me to ask him some questions such as:
- Did he have any relations in Malaysia?
- Is there any job awaiting him there?
- Did he have more than enough money in his account right now to process his traveling and sustain him in Malaysia?
To all my questions he couldn't give a convincing answer then I wondered where the greener pasture is, many people in our society today have the same mentality as his they believe once they leave their country for another they will succeed. Even if they succeed it is not immediately relocated, many Nigerian youths have gone overseas with the hope of searching for a greener pasture but later live with regrets. Your country's a greener pasture on its own if you know how to maximize every or any opportunity that comes your way, leaving your country for another is not the solution to the problems the world is facing today.
In search of greener pastures, many young ladies have ruined their lives, they go out of their born countries to other developed countries by all means and ended up being enslaved without any hope of freedom. Some were killed, and some were introduced into prostitution and all sort of illegal businesses so also our young men. They believe Malaysia is where their destiny lies and when they finally get there they become killers and that is how their glorious destiny is being truncated all because they needed a greener pasture. The harm we cause ourselves is much more than what the country caused us, am not saying traveling to another country is bad, it is good, and it is interesting because it helps to acquire more knowledge, helps to know more about other cultures and interact well with people from other countries but don't go there with the mindset of becoming a millionaire overnight.
I hope we can enlighten our youths more on how to develop themselves in their fatherland and erase the mentality of going to Malaysia for greener pastures or the accent "we just gat back" because I learned this is the first identification symbol of a person that just returned from Malaysia. You can be successful wherever you are you just have to maximize every opportunity and develop yourself more.
I am sorry to use the country Malaysia, it is common in my country and that is the country they believe their destiny lies, they believe it is a country for big boys and girls. Once again I apologize, it is not to defame the country or speak ill of the country.
Life is to be enjoyed like I always say but while enjoying life don't ruin your destiny and future in the process. Settle down where you are and never give up on yourself, hard work pays it pays a lot.
