I was about to drop the streak of publishing daily for all these years. It has been a tough decision. I am not doing it right now, but it might happen and I will do it at some point. Maybe it will be this year or not. As it seems, Hive is on a low descending curve. It could recover or not.
This is a short post about something else.
I came back home after taking a Basic English Course for the first time. I have tough many levels. However, I had never had the experience to teach true beginners. So this people are at the first step of the A1 course. I used to think this was one of the toughest things to teach. I still believe. Nevertheless, I was more prepared that I thought to take on this challenge. It is also the largest group I have had since I started working at the Academy. 11 people showed up today. It was a full class. It was fun. People had fun. Everything was great.
I a going through a process of adaptation for them. It is still more Spanish than English, but they will get to the point of only having classes in English. That is totally ok. I think they have already learned a lot more than they did during their school years.
The best part of it was the feeling of achievement after finishing the class. I loved teaching these people. I hope this is something that happens over the course of the 15 classes that are left. And I also hope I do a good enough work so my colleagues can keep guiding them towards the goal of learning English. It would be amazing to finish this course and then get these students back in the Writing Courses at the end of the B2 route. It would also give me a nice impression of how good of a teacher I was for true beginers.
For the time being, I will keep up with my other 2 courses and also taking up online students. I seems I only needed to beat the idea of teaching as a nightmare to get a lot of work. It was all the blessing that was waiting right there under my nose. I want to fill up my schedule with a lot of classes.
Who would've thought I just needed to get back on this horse?
The drawings on the board were started by one of my students in the writing course last November. They keep getting things added. Hopefully, they will never be erased.
