Greetings to everyone in the Lifestyle community! Today I’m here to share another day in my life with you. This time, I’m sharing an update on the mural I was commissioned to create at the school where I work. For this mural, I needed some time to include bookshelves with books and some elements that will stand out in the mural as icons of literature—especially those aimed at young adults or more contemporary works. The hardest part of this mural was getting everything just right, because it’s important to me that the letters be as symmetrical and proportionate as possible—there’s nothing worse than finding that one letter is smaller or larger than another, or that their angles aren’t consistent with each other… so that took me quite a while since I had to measure back and forth. Thanks to the help of a coworker—who is also the person in charge of this new space (Teacher Maria)—we were able to complete that task.
Saludos a todos en la comunidad de Lifestyle, el día de hoy me uno por acá para compartir con ustedes un nuevo día mi vida. En esta ocasión les comparto cómo va el avance del mural que me encargaron en el colegio en el cual trabajo. Para este mural necesite algún tiempo para poder incluir lo que eran estantes con sus libros y algunos elementos que destacarán en el mural como iconos de la literatura. Sobre todo aquellos que fueran juveniles o más contemporáneos. Lo más difícil de este mural fue que todo estuviese en su justa medida, pues para mí es importante que las letras pudiesen ser los más simétrica y proporcionadas posible, pues no hay nada peor que encontrar que una letra es más pequeña o más grande que la otra, e incluso que su inclinación no sea igual las unas entre las otras… por lo que eso me llevó bastante tiempo ya que debía medirse de aquí para allá. Gracias a la colaboración de una compañera de trabajo y quien también es la persona encargada de este nuevo espacio (la profe Maria), se pudo completar esa labor.
So for the following days, what I had to do was finally outline the entire sketch. It was something that also worried me since we were already close to the space’s opening day, so I had to start tracing all the letters and the elements I had drawn around that welcome sign. So that day I made quick progress by tracing everything with a white marker. As you can see, it turned out pretty well and made me feel confident, since it was something I wanted to have ready, and not even being able to trace the letters would have been a nightmare. Luckily, we also got some cold-weather paint that helped me cover the letters. Especially the larger ones, which needed quite a bit of white to lay down a base coat. It was especially nice because I also had the support of my boss, who helped me erase some of the chalk left over from the sketch, and also Professor Estrella, who drew some characters from children’s stories. I hope you enjoy it. I’ll add some more colors there. I’ll leave that for the next day as well, and I hope you can see the progress—it’s practically finished. Así que para los días siguientes, lo que debía hacer era delinear finalmente todo el boceto. Era algo que también me preocupaba pues ya estábamos cerca del día de la apertura del espacio, así que debía empezar a remarcar todas las letras y los elementos que había dibujado alrededor de ese cartel de bienvenida. Por lo que ese día avancé rápidamente remarcando todo con un marcador blanco. Como pueden ver, quedó bastante bien y me hizo sentir confiada, pues era algo que deseaba tener listo y no lograr siquiera poder remarcar las letras, habría sido una pesadilla. Por suerte, también conseguimos algunas pinturas al frío que me ayudaron a cubrir lo que son las letras. Sobre todo las más grandes que necesitaban bastante blanco para colocar una primera base. Fue especialmente bonito porque también recibí el apoyo de mi jefa, quien estuvo ayudándome a borrar parte de la tiza que quedó del boceto y también la profesora Estrella quien hizo por su parte, algunos personajes de cuentos infantiles. Espero que lo disfruten. Allí irán otros colores. Eso lo dejaré también para el día siguiente y espero que puedan ver el avance que ya está prácticamente listo.
