Today is my birthday, and it’s been a busy day. I wasn’t able to visit my garden. I knew ahead of time that my son had a doctor’s appointment at 10 a.m. So I didn’t see my own patients in the morning; instead, I got everything ready at home early so we could go to my son’s appointment.
I had never been to this mall before. The doctor’s appointment was with the dermatologist on the first floor. The doctor saw us at 10:15 a.m. In the meantime, my son and I waited very comfortably in the waiting room.
My son’s skin condition was diagnosed and treated by the dermatologist, and we hope that this time he’ll respond well to the treatment.
Then we went shopping at another mall. We did our biweekly grocery shopping so my son can have the day off tomorrow and enjoy time with his friends.
Can you believe that the only thing on display in this aisle is semolina pasta and that there isn’t a single package of semolina noodles in this entire long aisle? I like eating these noodles, and so does my son. There weren’t any in this aisle or in the other one, where another brand of semolina pasta is supposed to be.
When we finished shopping, my son took me to the bakery section and treated me to a bread roll filled with ham and cheese. It’s a sweet bread roll with a filling that can vary; we call it a cachito.
To top it off, we wanted a passion fruit slushie, but they don’t serve them here, so I ordered two strawberry slushies.
My son wanted to buy me a cake, but I stopped him for obvious reasons. Both he and I have potbellies, so buying a cake means we’ll finish it all in less than two days. So he bought just two slices of cake. Tonight he’ll sing “Happy Birthday” to me, and that’s enough to celebrate.
I wanted to have soup for dinner, but a patient called asking for an appointment for an ultrasound, so I put off making the soup for today and will prepare it tomorrow. My patient has an appointment today at 3 p.m. for an abdominal ultrasound.
As you’ve read, it’s an unusual birthday. I’m turning 65, in good health, with my son, my patients, and my plants. Everything is just as it was 20 years ago, only with a few more mature people.
With fewer family members present these days, we give thanks to God for continuing to celebrate life.
See you soon.
