Tengo el placer de compartir con ustedes mi relato especial del viaje desde Caicara del Orinoco hasta la ciudad de Naguanagua. Después de pasar una semana de visita en mi ciudad ribereña y de organizar previamente mis tres maletas de viaje, salí de madrugada en un coche que vino a buscarme a casa. Al llegar a la orilla del Orinoco, el río me recibió con un escenario espectacular. El horizonte estaba cubierto por unas nubes inmensas, elevadas y atractivas.
I am pleased to share with you my special account of the journey from Caicara del Orinoco to the city of Naguanagua. After spending a week visiting my riverside town and packing my three suitcases, I left at dawn in a car that came to pick me up at home. When I reached the banks of the Orinoco, the river welcomed me with a spectacular view. The horizon was covered by huge, high, attractive clouds.
Rápidamente, el chofer subió el vehículo a la chalana, que iba cargada con cuatro pasajeros y él. Éramos dos damas, un niño, el chofer y mi persona. Estoy emocionado porque disfruto del acontecer cotidiano de la vida sobre las aguas de este torrentoso Orinoco. Nos desplazamos aguas arriba, remontando la corriente hacia el puerto de Cabruta, que se encuentra en la punta saliente del territorio del estado Guárico. El color de las aguas, con el reflejo, era plateado. Siento la vibración del motor en mi ser. Es una travesía sensacional. La chalana logró llegar al puerto en una hora y veinte minutos, donde desembarcamos. Posteriormente, tomamos la carretera hasta Las Mercedes del Llano, donde se efectuó la parada de rigor.
The driver quickly drove the vehicle onto the barge, which was loaded with four passengers and himself. There were two ladies, a child, the driver, and myself. I am excited because I enjoy the daily life on the waters of this torrential Orinoco. We travelled upstream, going against the current towards the port of Cabruta, which is located at the tip of the Guárico state territory. The colour of the water, with its reflection, was silver. I feel the vibration of the engine in my being. It is a sensational journey. The barge reached the port in an hour and twenty minutes, where we disembarked. Afterwards, we took the road to Las Mercedes del Llano, where we made the obligatory stop.
El chofer detuvo la camioneta a la orilla de la carretera, junto a un asadero de carne en vara de la ciudad. El restaurante tiene un ambiente popular, es sencillo y se percibe la higiene, desde sus sanitarios hasta el área donde se realiza el asado. Su propietario es el señor Vilera. Es obligatorio comer allí; el menú es carne asada con sus acompañamientos. Solicitó una ración de la carne más asada para almorzar y otra para llevar, para mis dos hijas y mi nieto en el apartamento en Naguanagua, como un presente de este exquisito manjar. Me ubiqué en la mesa. Me paré a seleccionar la porción de carne. El calor del horno y la tensión térmica se sentían fuertemente en el ambiente del lugar. El olor a carne con sal y a leña es un nutriente que embriaga el deseo de comer.
The driver stopped the van on the side of the road, next to a barbecue restaurant in the city. The restaurant has a popular atmosphere, it is simple and clean, from its toilets to the area where the barbecue is cooked. Its owner is Mr Vilera. It is mandatory to eat there; the menu is barbecued meat with side dishes. I ordered a portion of the most well-done meat for lunch and another to take away for my two daughters and my grandson in the flat in Naguanagua, as a gift of this exquisite delicacy. I sat down at the table. I stood up to select my portion of meat. The heat from the oven and the thermal tension were strongly felt in the atmosphere of the place. The smell of meat with salt and wood smoke is a nutrient that intoxicates the desire to eat.
Efectuada la selección, me senté a disfrutar de mi almuerzo acompañado de un vaso de papelón con limón. Enseguida, llegó un plato a la mesa: un servicio rápido. Tomé los cubiertos y dirigí la obra del disfrute de comer carne asada en el llano venezolano. Culminada mi labor, me entregaron la ración para llevar. Pagué diecisiete dólares por el servicio. Subí a la camioneta complacido por este momento tan fabuloso. El chofer condujo hasta la próxima ciudad de Chaguaramas y, de allí, el rumbo continuó hasta la siguiente parada en Turmero, estado Aragua, para finalmente concluir en la ciudad de Naguanagua, estado Carabobo.
Once I had made my selection, I sat down to enjoy my lunch accompanied by a glass of papelón with lemon. Immediately, a plate arrived at the table: fast service. I picked up my cutlery and began the task of enjoying roast beef in the Venezuelan plains. When I had finished, they gave me my leftovers to take away. I paid seventeen dollars for the service. I got into the van, delighted with this fabulous moment. The driver drove to the next town, Chaguaramas, and from there we continued on to the next stop in Turmero, Aragua state, finally ending up in the city of Naguanagua, Carabobo state.
🏡 El Encuentro en Naguanagua
Bajamos el equipaje de la camioneta. Mi nieto me recibió corriendo con un abrazo y un beso. Una vez que entramos a la casa con las maletas, le entregué el manjar a Natalia, quien inmediatamente puso la carne a calentar en el microondas. Me sirvió un plato de comida para cenar con unos trozos pequeños que comí con placer. El manjar de carne asada duró poco en la mesa, pues los dientes trituraron con saciedad esta delicia de la gastronomía venezolana.

We unloaded the luggage from the van. My grandson ran up to me and gave me a hug and a kiss. Once we entered the house with the suitcases, I handed the delicacy to Natalia, who immediately put the meat in the microwave to heat up. She served me a plate of food for dinner with a few small pieces, which I ate with pleasure. The roast beef delicacy did not last long on the table, as our teeth devoured this Venezuelan gastronomic delight with relish.
