Hello, hivers. It’s me once more, Jean. Take a moment to read about my life at Province and stop scrolling. Are you a resident of a province or city? How are you? Are you alright? Since I’m not. I feel like my head is being severed, and I have a fever and cough. I’m helping my mom at my house right now because it’s still vacation time. Oh, why do you remain outside? You’re certainly welcome to visit our modest home and get a glimpse into my life.
This is our simple house, yet full of love and happiness.
In our province, in our little hometown, we’re very blessed with fresh air and a green view, especially at sunset.
The view is breathtaking.
The sunset is so pretty😍😍
😍😍😍
Our house is at the top of the mountain, which became a reason why it’s dangerous if there’s a typhoon or earthquake.
Before, when the typhoon Yolanda hit us, we evacuated into the cave. Yes, we’re in the cave at that time. There’s a cave in our home that’s near us. Our houses had already suffered damage by the time we returned. The expense of repairing the numerous destroyed pieces of property is substantial. My worst experience here is in the province.
My parents work.
My father’s work was construction. Yeah, you’re reading it right. My father was just a construction worker, yet he never failed to provide for our daily needs. He was such a good father; he never drinks any alcoholic drinks, yet he’s smoking. That’s it. He was healed from a kidney stone, and now he has high sugar levels, which became a reason why they need to come back to Chong Hua Hospital again this September for his checkup. They need around 9,000 pesos for it for medical expenses and transportation since Chong Hua is far away from our home. From his kidney stone to his high sugar, they almost spent 30,000 pesos for it, I guess. Nevertheless, despite his condition, he is still working to provide for our needs. A good father, indeed. My mother was the one who took care of my PWD sister and our cows, along with goats and a few chickens. We’re just a simple, happy family in our home.
Daily Routine
Despite my fever, I’m still doing my household chores, getting food for our goat, and continuing to do other things. Around 8 a.m., me and Mae, immediately went to the mountain to get food (any plants that our goat eats). My goat was picky when it came to her food, so I’m getting the plants that she was able to eat. This is one of my daily routines while I’m still here at home.
What a nice green view!
Mae was getting plants for the foods of goats with the use of a knife.
We owned one goat, and she’s now pregnant. My mother bought this goat for 1500 pesos. This goat is so annoying; she’s so noisy. She always shouts “me, me,” even though she has a full stomach. She’s always asking for more, or maybe she’s asking for a companion. What do you think?
I was feeding the goat with the foods that I get.
We also have a cow with a heifer calf. The heifer calf is already three months old, and now the mother is pregnant. How fast, ha! My mom really loves cows, even though it’s the reason why she’s always tired of getting grass for the cows to eat. These animals have been of great use to me at school, especially since I’m now an upcoming 3rd year college student, since if we don’t have money for my allowance, for my projects, and such, they will sell one of our animals to provide. They’re busy eating the grass
This is my mom’s daily routine: getting grass for the cow to eat, and sometimes I help her too.
After getting food for our goat, I helped my mom get two sacks of grass for our cow.
Crop
We have many plants, too.
We have mango; our neighbors are always here asking for mango, and my mom just lets them get it.
Come here, and let’s eat mango together.
This is our watery rose apple. It’s so yummy; my mom likes eating it while immersing it in the soy sauce. She was even climbing it to get the fruit.
Do you want to eat this fruit? Let me give you some.
This breadfruit is quite big; I even cooked it into breadfruit chips. So far, it was one of my fav cooked of breadfruit. You must try this too, hivers.
There’s a lot of ways to cook this breadfruit; it just depends on you.
We have a few coconuts. However, it became tall, which became a reason why I couldn’t eat due to not knowing how to climb. We have bananas as well; there are many. We have tundan and kurdaba.
Oh, how blessed we are to have these kinds of plants.
We have a quite large corn farm, guys, but we don’t own this land. They just let us plant this corn, and we will just give some of the corn to the owner after the harvest. It’s not easy for us to have this corn farm, guys. Did you know what? It’s because we’re taking each grass to the soil with the use of bolo. Even though it’s hot, we must continue what we’re doing in order to finish the whole land. The worst part was that right now our corn was being eaten by the cankerworms and being broken because of heavy rain and the strong wind. I felt so sad for all the farmers. All the hard work that we put in as farmers seems to be going away.
As you can see, it was being eaten, and it’s so sad for us to see this kind of scenario.
Our little garden
This is our little garden at home.
We have malabar spinach; we prefer cooking this together with eggplant, horseradish, etc. and call it “Utan.”
Sometimes, a few individuals come here to our house and ask to get some malabar spinach. My mom’s so kind; they give them.
These are eggplants; I prefer cooking them as turtang talong. If you have eggs and eggplant, then you can cook what I’ve called “turtang talong.” It’s only a few; however, we have already harvested many times.
We have many horseradish plants. I will only show you one of them. Some people cooked this together with flour, which is weird.
We dubbed it “galay-galay”—I don’t know what it means in English—and it tastes really good, guys.
This is an asparagus bean, but we called it in Bisaya “batong.”.
We do also have an okra and bitter gourd.
These okras were eaten by cankerworms too.
Cooking
My parents prefer eating corn than rice. Since I’m still at home, I’m the one in charge of cooking. My mom only cooks for breakfast, and I’m the one who cooks for lunch and dinner.
This is the corn, guys.
I will let you see what I’ve cooked sometimes for my family.
This is Turtang Talong. It’s just an egg and an eggplant.
Try to cook this, so you’ll know what the taste is.
This is what we called “utan bisaya.” It’s a mix of veggies.
I recommend you put pumpkin, eggplant, and asparagus beans for a better taste.
We called this one “ampalaya,” or balsam apple, in English. I eat this one if it’s mixed with eggs to reduce the bitterness.
Photo downloaded by Google that was posted by Pinoybites. I forgot to take a picture when I’m cooking this kind of dish , so I’m just providing a picture to you from Google Inable for you to know what it looks like.
I’ve cooked a sunny side up egg too.
This one is fish; sometimes we fry it, lat-an and un-unan.
Are you the one cooking for your family too? If yes, then I’m proud.
Hopefully you’re happy reading my blog, hivers. I will post Part 2 tomorrow or on another day. I would be delighted and appreciate it if you could leave your support along with your kind words in the comment section. Thank you. May you have a good day.🥰🥰
