¿Por qué "Evolución"?
Pues es una expresión para representar esas vivencias orientadas hacia algo nuevo y desconocido. Transmite la idea de una nueva etapa, por muy sencilla que sea, enfocada a crecer y compartir las anécdotas implícitas. De eso tratarán mis publicaciones con esa palabra en el título.
Bueno, ahora al grano. Escribí en mi presentación en Hive que, sin planificarlo, estaba aprendiendo a reparar máquinas de coser... Y también aprendiendo a coser 🪡 y quiero contar como me va con eso 🚧
Why “Evolution”?
Well, it’s a term that captures those experiences focused on something new and unknown. It conveys the idea of a new phase—no matter how simple—centered on growth and sharing the stories that come with it. That’s what my posts with that word in the title will be about.
Okay, let’s get to the point. I wrote in my introduction that, without planning it, I was learning to repair sewing machines... And also learning to sew [🪡 and I want to share how that’s going 🚧

Hace dos semanas Anne002 y yo nos anotamos para un curso de costura en nuestra ciudad, Cantaura. Aún no estaba definido la hora y fecha para comenzar pues faltaban por inscribirse más voluntarios para cerrar la matrícula y debíamos esperar un poco.
Llevaba varios días conteniendo algo de ansiedad por la espera -típico 😒-. Mientras, me había tomado la precaución, con tiempo, de ir comprando materiales que supuse pedirían para un curso de costura: hilos 🧵, agujas 🪡, cinta métrica 📏, alfileres, 📌📍, tiza para tela... tomando en cuenta que lo más importante, la máquina de coser, ya la tenemos.
Llegó por fin el lunes 04 de mayo. Estábamos avisados para darnos cita a las 3:00 pm. Mientras daban la una y media de la tarde, se suspendió el servicio eléctrico 😒. Hacía un calor de locos 🥵 pero eso no fue impedimento para asistir 🤠
Two weeks ago, Anne002 and I signed up for a sewing class in our town, Cantaura. The start date and time hadn’t been set yet because more participants needed to sign up to fill the class, so we had to wait a little while.
I’d been feeling a bit anxious about the wait for several days—typical 😒. In the meantime, I had taken the precaution, ahead of time, of buying the materials I assumed they would ask for in a sewing class: thread 🧵, needles 🪡, measuring tape 📏, pins 📌📍, fabric chalk... keeping in mind that the most important thing, the sewing machine, we already have.
Monday, May 4, finally arrived. We had been told to meet at 3:00 pm. Just as it was 1:30 in the afternoon, the power went out 😒. It was insanely hot 🥵, but that didn’t stop us from going 🤠
La impresión de nuestra primera clase puedo resumirla con optimismo: nuestro maestro facilitador resultó ser un hombre con amplia experiencia y talento. Ha confeccionado trajes de gala 💃para concursantes de certámenes de belleza 👑 y además tiene una firma comercial donde monetiza su conocimiento así que estamos en buenas manos.
Para variar, se siente raro hasta ahora ser el único varón (estudiante) del grupo. La mayor parte resultaron ser mujeres maduras, salvo por mi Annie 🥹🥰. En apariencia no tengo la más mínima pinta de costurero, y nadie se imaginaría que yo pretendiera aprender este oficio 🤭, lo digo porque aunque no tiene nada de extraño, en Venezuela culturalmente suele relacionarse "costura" más con mujeres que con hombres. Pero así soy yo 😎, siempre rompiendo los esquemas 😜
I can sum up my impression of our first class with optimism: our instructor turned out to be a man with extensive experience and talent. He has made formal gowns 💃 for beauty pageant contestants 👑 and also runs a business where he monetizes his expertise, so we’re in good hands.
For a change, it feels strange so far to be the only male (student) in the group. Most of them turned out to be mature women, except for my Annie 🥹🥰. On the surface, I don’t look the least bit like a seamster, and no one would imagine that I’d want to learn this trade 🤭. I say this because, although there’s nothing strange about it, in Venezuela “sewing” is culturally associated more with women than with men. But that’s just me 😎—always breaking the mold 😜
Tengo los mejores motivos: primero, adquirir destreza en un oficio que en cualquier lugar, en cualquier circunstancia y para cualquier persona es útil; y segundo porque me propuse apoyar incondicionalmente a mi novia 
La instalación donde veremos clases es un lugar modesto, sencillo, optimizado para adultos en formación de artes y oficios. Se trata de la Escuela para el Emprendimiento "Doña Gregoria Díaz", y ahora que lo pienso 🤔 no tengo la más mínima idea de a quién pertenece ese nombre ni de dónde lo sacaron 😅🤭. Algo más para investigar.
I have the best reasons: first, to master a skill that’s useful anywhere, under any circumstances, and for anyone; and second, because I decided to unconditionally support my girlfriend
The facility where we’ll be taking classes is a modest, simple place, optimized for adults learning arts and crafts. It’s the “Doña Gregoria Díaz” School for Entrepreneurship, and now that I think about it 🤔, I haven’t the faintest idea who that name belongs to or where they got it from 😅🤭. Something else to look into.
Después de las debidas presentaciones, recibimos las primeras nociones de lo que nos espera y cuál será la metodología de trabajo. Más práctica que teoría. El curso está proyectado para durar 3 meses, tres días por semana, así que estimamos culminarlo el 3 de agosto. Para esa fecha debemos hacer un cierre de curso presentando una pieza confeccionada que condense lo que aprendimos, y llevar alguien que sirva de modelo para que lo exhiba.
Estoy muy emocionado la verdad 🥳😋. Por una parte porque a partir de ahora no tendré que gastar más dinero en comprar ropa, y por otra, porque lo hago junto a la persona que más quiero 🥰. Por lo pronto la primera tarea será aprender a confeccionar una franela o camiseta 👕. Algo sencillo.
Y esa fue la experiencia de nuestro primer día de curso👌
Conforme vaya transcurriendo el tiempo, seguiré compartiendo más anécdotas. Seguro todo esto nos dejará agradables recuerdos, nuevas habilidades y hasta nuevas amistades 😎. Quien sabe 🤷

After the introductions, we were given an overview of what lies ahead and the course methodology. It’s more hands-on than theoretical. The course is scheduled to last three months, three days a week, so we expect to finish on August 3. By that date, we have to wrap up the course by presenting a finished garment that encapsulates what we’ve learned, and bring someone to model it.
I’m really excited, to be honest 🥳😋. On one hand, because from now on I won’t have to spend any more money on buying clothes, and on the other, because I’m doing it alongside the person I love most 🥰. For now, the first task will be learning how to make a T-shirt 👕. Something simple.
And that was our experience on the first day of class👌
As time goes on, I’ll keep sharing more stories. I’m sure all of this will leave us with fond memories, new skills, and even new friendships 😎. Who knows 🤷
As I said in my introduction: It’s always a good time to start 🦾
So, here’s to new beginnings! 🍻🥳
