The best kind of corn to eat in this season is very fresh corn directly from the farm as it will be very soft and juicy with its fresh sap.
I planted corn at our farm and the corn seems to be doing well, just take a look at it, I have been craving for corn and pear ever since we got into the new month, but did not get the opportunity to eat anyone yet. This made me look out for the earliest arrival of corn.
Three months ago, farmers have been busy with their farmlands, clearing up and planting one crop or the other.
It is the planting season and there were farmers who planted early and farmers who planted late and some are still planting.
This early planters also planted corn and their corn seems to be ready for harvesting this month.
Most farmers have started harvesting their corns and selling them to market women or women who operate roasting corn business by the road side. Even women who hawk boiled corn too.
It was unknown to me that the corns found now are not totally very fresh as most of them have been one day old.
Like I said earlier, best corns for eating are very fresh corns. By the time any corn stays up to one day old without being boiled or roasted, it becomes strong and less fun to consume.
While on my way home at night, I stopped by a roadside kiosk where they sell roasted corn to buy one for myself. It was sold at N500 for one small piece. I bought it out of excitement.
I thought the corn was fresh, only for me to take a bite and behold the corn was very strong. I didn't find it interesting at all.
I only ate it because it was steaming hot and when it got cold I couldn't eat it again. I forgot to drink some water after eating the corn, so I went to bed like that without drinking water only for me to wake up this morning with stomach ache.
Even as I type, I'm still feeling the pain in my stomach and I just pray it goes away very soon.
I have made up my mind not to buy and eat any roadside corn again for now, untill the season of corn is fully in. Reasons because I don't seem to trust the sellers anymore as they are selling old, strong corn.
I normally eat my corn with pear but pear is also not yet fully out now, so when pear and corn is fully on ground, I too will harvest fresh corn from our farm and I will buy some pear too, add the combo and eat.
