They say your hobby should be something that brings you peace, joy, and purpose — for me, that’s cycling.
Not just riding, but feeling the wind in my face as I coast through Uyo’s early morning streets, chasing progress with every pedal.
From Humble Rides to Serious Roads
My cycling journey began with an old MTB (mountain bike). It wasn't fancy, but it gave me my first taste of the road, and I fell in love with the rhythm, the grind, and the calm that comes after the ride.
But as I kept riding, my goals started evolving.
I trained. I tracked. I improved.
Eventually, I upgraded to a road bike — and that’s where things truly took off.
I started measuring progress not just by distance, but by my average speed, cadence, and the discipline of early morning rides. The results? I’ve improved my average speed significantly, and that growth fuels my drive even more.
Beyond Fitness
For me, cycling isn’t just about exercise. It’s:
Improve health
Cycling helps improve heart rate and burns extra cholesterol. A healthy heart, a healthy life.A way to clear my mind
When you feel the grip the pedals brings to your feet and peace that comes from moving on two wheels, that alone is medicine.A moment to challenge myself
Beating averages, climbing hills faster, keeping pace with everyone and knowing that each time, you have to get better also affects the way I think about everything else.A connection to community — like the Coast to Coast cycling event I completed earlier this year
Being part of a large group or simply cycling with my best buddies, Endie and Kenti brings a sense on belonging.
Riding in a city like Uyo is a visual experience: from peaceful sunrise routes to group rides full of energy and good company. Not forsaking the laughter and joy it brings.
Who I Am Through Cycling
If you know me, you know I’m calm, focused, and honest — cycling brings out the best in all of that.
It has taught me consistency, patience, and how small daily efforts lead to big milestones.
I don’t just ride — I grow with every ride.
I capture some of my rides and share them here on Hive, not to boast, but to inspire and connect. Maybe someone else will grab a helmet and start their own journey.
Cycling is my hobby — but more than that, it’s part of who I am.
