A new direction☀️☁️ 🚶 (Eng/Esp)

A new day to continue exploring the city. Now my steps took a different direction; Gran Mariscal Avenue, which is usually very busy because it is a communication route to downtown. On this occasion, the distance traveled took me to the old headquarters of the Rectorate of Universidad de Oriente, of which I have fond memories because I graduated there.

In my student days, I remember having managed several procedures in this great building, including the purchase of stamps to validate certified grades and my bachelor's degree. At that time, the building looked imposing, like a great fortress because of its extreme security and its facilities were impeccable, to the point that I could see my reflection on the floor.

Today, when passing by, the sensation was very different, the building is abandoned, its façade shows a marked deterioration. The trees in front were cut down and of the "Walk of the illustrious sucrenses" (whose representation was raised with some busts) only a distant memory remains. Neglect and vandalism consumed the surroundings. Although at the operational level the Rectorate maintains its activities in a new headquarters nearby, this structure remains as a monument to a glorious past that disintegrated.

The Santa Ana church, located next to this building, also shows signs of deterioration, the ravages of time and the weather corrupt any building, despite the fact that this religious precinct is frequented daily by parishioners. The image given by both buildings is not very pleasant because they look abandoned and discolored, sad, as if they were showing pain.

If we walk a little further we will come across the Nueva Esparta School, a place that also brings back beautiful memories since I studied elementary education there. I am pleased to see that the physical plant is being remodeled, the changes are quite evident, which represents a great advance and of course a marked contrast with what I left behind. At least I took with me an optimistic image when I finished my tour.

Un nuevo día para continuar explorando la ciudad. Ahora mis pasos tomaron un rumbo diferente; la Avenida Gran Mariscal, la cual suele ser muy transitada porque es una vía de comunicación hacia el centro. En esta ocasión, la distancia recorrida me llevó hasta la antigua sede del Rectorado de Universidad de Oriente, de la cual tengo gratos recuerdos porque allí me gradué.

En mis días de estudiante, recuerdo haber gestionado varios trámites en este gran edificio, incluyendo la compra de estampillas para validar notas certificadas y mi título de licenciada. En aquel tiempo, la construcción lucía imponente, parecía una gran fortaleza por su extrema seguridad y además sus instalaciones estaban impecables, hasta el punto de poder ver mi reflejo en el piso.

Hoy, al pasar por allí, la sensación fue muy distinta, la edificación está abandonada, su fachada muestra un marcado deterioro. Talaron los árboles del frente y del "Paseo de los ilustres sucrenses" (cuya representación se alzaba con algunos bustos) solo queda un lejano recuerdo. La desidia y el vandalismo consumieron los alrededores. Si bien a nivel operativo el Rectorado mantiene sus actividades en una nueva sede cerca de allí, esta estructura permanece como un monumento a un glorioso pasado que se desintegró.

La iglesia Santa Ana, ubicada al lado de este edificio, también presenta signos de deterioro, los estragos del tiempo y la intemperie corrompen cualquier edificación, a pesar de que este recinto religioso es frecuentado diariamente por los feligreses. La imagen que conceden ambas construcciones no resulta muy agradable porque lucen abandonadas y descoloridas, tristes, como si mostraran dolor.

Si caminamos un poco más allá nos toparemos con la Escuela Nueva Esparta, lugar que también me trae hermosos recuerdos pues allí estudié Educación Básica. Me complace ver que la planta física se encuentra en remodelación, los cambios son bastante evidentes, lo cual representa un gran avance y por supuesto un marcado contraste con lo que dejé atrás. Al menos me llevé una imagen optimista cuando terminé mi recorrido.
