Cumana de Antaño (Eng/Esp)

Cumana de Antaño is an annual celebration in honor of the founding of the city, the first city in eastern Venezuela, which is celebrating its 510th anniversary. I had the opportunity to attend with my wife, mother-in-law, and daughter. The historic district was the setting that brought together a large crowd of people who came to witness the show organized by public and private institutions.

As is customary, there was a large display, with various stands recreating facades, customs, and locations typical of the early 20th century, so the clothing, music, cuisine, and utensils that identify that era were present throughout Sucre Street.

Music takes center stage at an event like this, so several school orchestras and dance groups performed to showcase their talent and put on a show worthy of such a celebration. One of the most impressive decorations, given the lighting and giant letters, was located at the foot of the steps of the Santa Inés church, where you could read "510 years Cumaná."

Various commercial organizations and private businesses decided to make their presence felt by selling different types of food and drinks. So much so that the various inns in the area opened their doors to visitors and curious onlookers, with many organizing photographic exhibitions.

We spent a unique evening surrounded by excitement, loud music, displays of talent in different areas, and the warmth that accompanies a celebration like this. We had a great time admiring the organization and artistic talent of the people of Cumaná.

Cumaná de Antaño es una celebración que se realiza cada año en honor a la fundación de la ciudad, la primogénita del oriente venezolano que cumple su aniversario número 510. Tuve la oportunidad de asistir junto a mi esposa, mi suegra y mi hija. El Casco histórico fue el escenario que reunió a una gran multitud de personas que acudieron para presenciar el espectáculo que organizan instituciones públicas y privadas.

Como suele ser costumbre hubo un gran despliegue, diversos stands que recrearon fachadas, costumbres, y locaciones propias de principios del siglo XX, así que la vestimenta, música, gastronomía y utensilios que identifican esa época estuvieron presentes a lo largo de la calle Sucre.

En un evento como este resalta la música, así que varias orquestas y grupos de danza escolares se presentaron para mostrar su talento y dar un show digno de tal celebración. Una de las decoraciones que más impactó, dada la iluminación y las letras gigantes, fue la ubicada al pie de la escalinata de la iglesia Santa Inés, allí se podía leer "510 años Cumaná".

Distintas organizaciones comerciales y negocios particulares decidieron hacer presencia para colocar ventas de comidas y bebidas de diferentes tipos. Tanto es así que las distintas posadas que se encuentran en esa zona abrieron sus puertas para atender a los visitantes y curiosos ya que en muchas organizaron exposiciones fotográficas.

Pasamos una tarde noche diferente, rodeados de algarabía, música cañonera, despliegue de talentos en diferentes áreas y el calor humano que acompaña una celebración como esta. Disfrutamos un buen rato admirando la organización y el talento artístico de los cumaneses.
