I found myself standing on the roadside one fateful day, a deep sense of discomfort swirling within me. It was as if a warning bell rang in my spirit, urging me to leave that spot. Moments later, my instincts proved right when I heard sirens and shouts pierce the air—an accident had occurred right where I had just been standing. A person was injured, caught in the chaos that followed.
A neighbour of mine recounted a similar experience. He was sitting comfortably at a PlayStation, engrossed in a football match. Suddenly, an unsettling feeling washed over him, infusing him with anxiety. Trusting his instincts, he decided to head home. Just five minutes after settling in, a loud knock reverberated through his doorway. To his horror, he learned that a stray bullet had struck the person who had taken his seat—an unfortunate event that could have claimed his life as well. His decision to listen to that still, small voice within him—and a divine intervention—spared him from what could have been a calamitous accident.
If you ever feel uneasy about a trip, why not reconsider? If a gentle urging within prompts you to leave a gathering, heed that call. And if you find yourself lacking the motivation to continue an activity, perhaps it's wise to pause and discern the reason for your restlessness.

By definition, an accident is:
- An unfortunate incident occurring unexpectedly and unintentionally, often leading to damage or injury. For example, "He had an accident at the factory."
- An event that occurs purely by chance or without discernible cause. As in, "The pregnancy was an accident."
- In Aristotelian philosophy, it refers to a characteristic that is not essential to the nature of a thing.
Reflecting on these definitions, I propose a broader understanding of what we call an accident:
- A failure to recognise divine warnings that could prevent unforeseen tragedies and losses.
- An inability to understand the messages from our spirit, indicating danger that could lead us into harm's way.
- A hesitation to act upon divine guidance, leading us into the midst of perilous situations.

What we often label as accidents may instead stem from negligence—the neglect of our spiritual duties, opening the door to danger.
God has instituted safety measures for our protection, but if we remain blind to them, they become ineffective:
- The Spirit of God serves as a protective shield for all who embrace Him (through Jesus Christ), guiding believers away from the calamities the world may call accidents.
- Our conscience acts as a conduit through which the spirit can communicate with our mind. By tuning in to its guidance, we can avoid the pitfalls that lead to disaster.
- Seeking wise counsel can also be a protective measure, enabling us to learn from others' experiences rather than endure painful lessons ourselves.
Trust in the Spirit of God—He holds the keys to your safety when you cannot discern the way. Listen to your innermost self; it will lead you on the path of clarity when confusion reigns. Be quick to learn, embrace wisdom, and you will navigate life with discernment, avoiding the costly mistakes that could jeopardise your existence.
