Today I want to share with you my experience driving my Ford Mondeo with different wheel and tire configurations and other cosmetic details. 😎
Este auto fue mi vehÃculo personal durante más de 6 años y en ese tiempo me gustaba ir poniéndole diferentes llantas a las originales. Asà que les hare un repaso por cada momento y comentarles cuál fue la mejor según mi opinión.
This car was my personal vehicle for more than 6 years and during that time I liked to put different tires on it than the original ones. So I will review each moment and tell you which one was the best in my opinion.
Cuando compre el Ford Mondeo, este venÃa con llantas originales de 15 pulgadas y neumáticos 195-60-15. Eran bonitas a la vista pero muy genérica. Con respecto al confort, el auto era muy suave. No se escuchaba el rodamiento en el asfalto y amortiguaba muy bien las zonas de piedras o calles con desniveles. En cuanto a la velocidad llegaba bien a los 200 km/h, pero no se lo notaba fuerte o que se agarraba al asfalto en la ruta.

When I bought the Ford Mondeo, it came with original 15-inch wheels and 195-60-15 tires. They were nice to look at but very generic. As for comfort, the car was very smooth. You couldn't hear the rolling on the asphalt and it cushioned the rocky areas or uneven streets very well. As for speed, it reached 200 km/h well, but it didn't feel strong or like it was gripping the asphalt on the road.

Aquà ya pasamos al rodado 16 en las llantas y los neumáticos eran 205-55-16.
Esta configuración pensó que fue la más equilibrada de las tres, ya que aumento la adherencia, mejoro la estética externa porque estas llantas eran muy bonitas, como si sobresalieran, y los neumáticos eran más anchos, favoreciendo el agarre. Las llantas eran de aleación liviana, por lo que tenÃa menos peso que las originales. La velocidad final aumento y la aceleración se mantuvo.
El confort de marcha era excelente. Muy buen desempeño de todo. ¡Me encanto!

Here we moved on to 16-inch wheels and the tires were 205-55-16.
This configuration was thought to be the most balanced of the three, as it increased grip, improved the external aesthetics because these wheels were very nice, as if they stood out, and the tires were wider, favoring grip. The wheels were made of light alloy, so it had less weight than the originals. The top speed increased and the acceleration was maintained.
The ride comfort was excellent. Very good performance of everything. I loved it!

Y para el final pase a unas llantas de 17 pulgadas. Estas llantas en realidad no pensaba comprarlas, pero el mecánico amigo de mi papá las tenÃa en oferta y aproveché. En lo estético es una de las más lindas. Al verlo en persona realmente impresionaba ver un auto de esa época con llantas tan grandes. Pero acá comenzaron los problemas. Los neumáticos que usaba eran 205/45/17, el cual no mejoraba la adherencia, ya que era el mismo ancho que el de 16 pulgadas, y además era talón más bajo, por lo que absorbÃa muchÃsimo menos las deformidades del suelo.
La aleación era demasiado liviana para el peso del auto y terminé rompiendo una llanta en plena autopista. Los ruidos se sentÃan mucho más. Tuve que bajar mucho la forma picante que tenÃa de manejar para uno más suave y tranquilo para evitar nuevas roturas o ruidos molestos. Si me dieran a elegir, volverÃa a la anterior. Disfrute mucho las miradas hacia el auto porque era llamativo, pero para nada recomendable en el uso diario.

Bueno, mis amigos, este fue mi resumen y mis experiencias con los neumáticos y llantas en mi ex Ford Mondeo. ¿Ustedes, también tuvieron experiencias similares? Los leo.
And finally, I switched to 17-inch wheels. I wasn't really planning on buying these wheels, but my dad's mechanic friend had them on sale and I took advantage. Aesthetically, it's one of the prettiest. Seeing it in person was really impressive to see a car from that era with such large wheels. But here's where the problems began. The tires I used were 205/45/17, which didn't improve grip, since it was the same width as the 16-inch one, and it also had a lower bead, so it absorbed much less the deformities of the ground.
The alloy was too light for the weight of the car and I ended up breaking a tire in the middle of the highway. The noises were much louder. I had to lower my spicy driving style a lot to a smoother and calmer one to avoid new breaks or annoying noises. If I had to choose, I would go back to the old one. I really enjoyed the looks at the car because it was striking, but not at all recommended for daily use.
