Over the years that I have been creating content, I have done a lot of reading on how to grow my followers, how to get more subscribers, content marketing, and general online marketing. I have tried many things, and I have had a good few successes. But it wasn't until I started asking people to sign up to my newsletter or subscribe to my Youtube channel that I really saw a more lasting impact.
CTA's or Call to Action is a term used in marketing that encourages a user to make a response. CTA's are not new to online marketing and have been used for a long long time.
A gentleman goes into a shop for a new suit, something suitable for the office. He tries on two and seems to like the second one. The shopkeeper tries to close the sale and askes the gentleman while he is admiring himself in the mirror, 'how would you like to pay for that today sir?'. A simple but effective call to action.
Everywhere we go, on the radio, on billboards, on flyers, in shops, online, there are calls to actions. It's marketing in action.
As mentioned at the start, I have had successes with different marketing tricks but many of them were not lasting. For example, I created a few 'List' type posts. You know the ones. '10 Tricks you can not afford to miss' type content. And yes it does great for a peak in traffic. But the traffic is not always the best quality traffic. People reading these posts like quick fixes, most of my content is longer and more detailed. They didn't stick around to read other posts and the bounce rate was high. I wasn't going to consistently produce list type posts, and marketing needs a certain amount of consistency.
It was only this year I started asking people on my Youtube channel to subscribe and give the video the thumbs up and I have been doing it consistently in all of my videos. And yes, I have seen an increase in subscribers and the number of thumbs up, and sometimes down. when I started blogging, my newsletter subscription rate was worse than shit. because I didn't have a call to action on each post asking them to sign up.
This simple simple step of just asking people works. Yet with those using web3 applications such as Peakd and Brave seem to be forgetting to ask for tips. Tipping is optional. Many readers just browsing content wouldn't even notice the tipping button on Peakd, or on Brave. If someone downloaded Brave because of the Adblocker, how likely is it they know they can tip creators? Let's face it, it's not like the little triangle in the browser shouts 'Press Me'.
As content creators using Brave or Peakd or any web3 application, we are early adaptors, we need to inform our followers, educate them and we need to ask them. There is no shame in asking for tips, especially if you are a content creator that's looking for an alternative source of income.
So if you are a Brave Verified Creator, start asking for tips. If you are a content creator using Peakd, give it a try too. People don't have to give and should not be offended by a CTA in your content. Ok so Peakd is a little different as earning can be made from upvotes, but the reader might like to reward you a little more and might just need a gentle nudge.
Have you asked your following for Tips? I would love to hear about your experience? Maybe you can share an example of some wording you have used. I can't wait to read your comments!!!!
